Nov. 23rd, 2022 08:02 amIt was a busy day yesterday.
I'm not sure if this made the post but on Monday a roofer came out, but he was alone and only had a short ladder so could only inspect the roof to gutter level. But, he said he'd come out the next morning at 8:30 to make the roof water-tight on a temp basis, and that was it apart from phone calls for Monday.
Yesterday, he did arrive on time and covered the holes at the same time Rainbows, a service that does insurance clean-ups arrived to inspect the bedroom. End result of that is they've condemned the bed, the carpet, the ceiling, all bedding, curtains etc. Even though we moved the bed from under the hole in the ceiling they said the damp has got in, add in the risk of fibreglass and James crawling when his leg is off and they said, no way to the carpet staying. They also left a dehumidifier which has been running ever since.
The company are specialists at cleaning rooms so all I have to do is take down the pictures, get all the books out etc and they'll either chuck the big stuff or move it.
Once they'd gone we decided to drive to Durham for a walk and to pick up Pauline's Christmas present from a shop there. Did that, and had a bit of a mooch and a coffee from Costa when someone started to repeatedly ring my mobile. Turns out it was a different set of roofers who were coming to do the actual repairs.
So, drove back home, they came, and while they were fixing the roof the loss adjuster from the insurance came. She's co-ordinating everything, setting up the builders, scheduling stuff and granting payment where thankfully we have new for old insurance so will be able to replace everything.
She left and I had to go to Simply Cats to schedule Murphy's boosters and annual check-up. Also, to pick up a raffle prize I'd won from Consett Cats. There were a load of prizes, the first one a holiday. Sadly I didn't get that but was number four drawn so had a nice choice of things to pick from. I needed to give two choices, but the M&S gift card was picked by winner number two first, but I got my second choice which was a Body Shop gift set which I was happy about. Then Kay the Cat Lady messaged saying she'd lost that prize and would either go buy me another or I could pick something else. While I wasn't about to make her buy something else there was only alcohol left at that point which wasn't ideal. But I picked something called posh gin. And when I picked up the prize it really was posh gin, and came with lots of other fancy stuff plus a huge Toblerone, so score! Chocolate for us, gin to be used as a Christmas gift.
From there James needed to go for his renal appointment at the hospital, which we were both nervous about. Cutting this already long entry. It's definitely not cancer, he has got kidney damage and she's sending him for a scan, which thankfully is one that doesn't involve any injections or needles. But, while the scan will show more she thinks it's more a case of diet and getting his blood pressure down even further to keep the damage from getting worse. But if he gets more symptoms in the future another biopsy may be needed, but only as a last resort. Of course, his blood pressure was sky high yesterday, but James explained that we hadn't been able to park anywhere close to the renal unit, so walked a long distance, booked in and he was sent straight off for a sample and from there to get his blood pressure done so add on the last few days no wonder it was up. They did do it again before he left and it had dropped so that was good.
Today I need to start getting stuff out of the bedroom and start on a list of stuff that needs to be replaced, costs etc. That's a bit daunting, even though the insurance is paying, it'll still be a lot of money. And I'd hate to think what the building costs are going to be.

Date: 2022-11-23 04:44 pm (UTC)I'm sure glad the insurance adjuster is going to be coordinating the repairs/replacements, as that sounds like a huge job. good luck getting your things shifted out of the bedroom, and drafting up that list
hoping James' scan doesn't have any surprises, and he can stabalize with few major lifestyle changes

Date: 2022-11-23 05:02 pm (UTC)The kidney doctor didn't seem that concerned which was a huge relief. The scan will be good to hopefully see what is wrong, but it looks like it may just be another AMC thing

Date: 2022-12-10 01:58 pm (UTC)That's exactly what they did and it's still chugging along now, and suspect it will be until they start the actual construction work on Tuesday. The electrician is coming Monday but I don't think that one is a big job. Tuesday the dust and stuff will start flying.

Date: 2022-12-10 01:57 pm (UTC)It's been a long job already but the actual putting things together again starts on Monday.
James got his official letter about his kidney appointment and while he hasn't has his scan yet, the letter does state they don't think it's anything serious which is a relief.

Aww, kidney damage! I hope James feels better soon. I'm guessing there are diet changes or something?

Yeah, it is good that they're replacing, but I remain looking forward to getting back in my own room.

Yeah, mainly self-explanatory really, getting his weight down a little and blood pressure down with low fat and very low salt. He actually got the letter about the appointment today and while it was positive about nothing serious, he's got no excuse to say he didn't hear her say healthy eating anymore. Though I think we all know doing that is not the easiest thing ever.

And I hope the low-tech methods will be able to help James manage his kidney stuff. I'm so glad to hear it's not anything more extreme.

Date: 2022-11-29 01:07 pm (UTC)They are being good. They're up there now taking up the carpet and getting rid of it and the bed, plus, plaster and rubbish that came from the ceiling. I'd like to think once that was gone I can start to put things a bit neater again.
I was thrilled to find Toblerone in with the gin. I can do without gin, but that's my favourite chocolate.
I'm so glad to hear it's not anything more extreme.
Me too. So very much.

It must be such a relief it's not cancer! Hopefully the scan will show that her preliminary diagnosis is right. I'm keeping everything crossed!!

Date: 2022-11-29 01:00 pm (UTC)The gin will be a fantastic gift. We'd never drink it so better to get rid of it to someone who would.
It was a huge relief it wasn't cancer. It was a slim chance but still a chance, so it's good that it's 100% not now.

It does suck that there's something going on, but we'll cope and be glad it's not life-threatening.
Yeah, the insurance money is supposed to be released today, so we can get out and start buying the things we need. I miss my own big bed.
