Dec. 7th, 2022 12:40 pmI mentioned that I hoped James' back appointment would be quick the other day, well it was the quickest appointment ever. He finished work early, picked me up, we drove to the hospital, and waited for about five minutes. The surgeon came to get him and we walked to the appointment room. He asked James how his back was, James said great right now, and the reply was, brilliant. If you start to get pain again before three months pass we'll do nerve burning, if you get pain again after three months it'll be injections, and that was it, we were on our way. Literally an appointment of only a few minutes.
Thankfully, as James is now seen at the private hospital for his back issues it'll be easy to get an appointment if needed. But I'm hoping he won't need one for a long time.
Murphy was at the vets yesterday and got a clean bill of health apart from being a bit on the big size. He's 6.4 kg but I liked how the vet approached it. She said that she doesn't go on figures but how he looks and yes he has some extra padding, but that can easily be dealt with. We'd already stopped the free grazing on dry food for him a while ago so hopefully, he'll have dropped a bit by next year. Poor guy though, he was so nervous but the vet was so good with him. Making sure to give strokes and cuddles after his booster as she said she didn't want his last memory of her to be someone causing pain.
Once we'd dropped Murphy home we had to go do some grocery shopping. I don't think I said but I completely defrosted the freezer at the weekend because the times the door had been left partially open had led to a huge block of ice at the back behind the interior plastic which meant the door wouldn't shut properly. So I've been using up the food in there and had to throw some things that had been freezer burned but it meant I had a completely empty space to fill with Christmas goodies. It was nice not to have to play freezer tetris for once, but I'm sure it'll soon be full of Company bargains.
Then in the afternoon, the men came to measure the bedroom carpet. They were great and rearranged another appointment so they're coming to ours on the 23rd once all the decorating has been done. They also said they'd lift the wardrobes as long as they were completely empty and fix a bit on the stairs where the carpet has come loose. I felt a bit bad that they'd be working so close to Christmas but they said they'd be done by midday and would go off then, so fingers crossed, everything will be done and back in place by the night of the 23rd.
All my Christmas decorations are up in their sparkly awesome glory. The sparkle deer herd are looking fantastic and it now takes me about five minutes to turn off all the battery lights before bed. I've also put up some decorations that came from my MiL's old house. We didn't investigate the box last year as things were still a bit raw, and to be honest, when I opened the box this year I didn't expect much as their house had been in such a bad state. But, while the collection of plastic snow shakers was a bit ropey, there were also some lovely delicate glass tree ornaments and ceramic Santa Clauses.
I've been cashing in my survey earnings and am about to spend a chunk of them on Corey's Christmas presents. I asked him to send an Amazon list this year as people kept getting him alcohol and while he does drink, he's still got bottles left from last year. His list makes me smile, it's a mix of sweets, geeky stuff and kitchen equipment so I'll go through and pick a few things. Though, I remain amazed that board games exist that are nearly £50. But, those are the kinds of things I'd want to get for him knowing he wouldn't buy himself. So, good job, Corey.

Date: 2022-12-07 01:05 pm (UTC)The timeline is so tight. Right now everything looks great and should slot into place. But I remain very aware that one job not happening will mess everything up.

Date: 2022-12-07 05:20 pm (UTC)Well, Murphy likes the bed but hardly gets in it as Milo is a heated bed hog. He reminds me of when you talk about Lily Cat and how she doesn't want to leave hers. I was actually considering buying another so Murphy could get a look in *g*

Date: 2022-12-07 06:50 pm (UTC)Excellent news about the carpet, too, it'll be lovely for that all to be sorted out and cosy and pretty for the festive.
Ahhh, genre boardgames, the ultimate money sink!

I had no idea genre boardgames were so expensive. Like I said in comments above, I suspect the last time I bought any kind of board game was junior monopoly or something when Corey was an actual kidlet.

You've reminded me that I forgot to defrost my freezer before I started the Christmas baking. Very lax of me but hopefully it won't get too iced up before I have time to do it after the holidays.
Keeping everything crossed for your bedroom to be finished before Christmas!
The glass Christmas tree ornamens sound like a real find. They're often much prettier than modern ones.
Corey's Christmas list sounds fun!

Date: 2022-12-11 08:41 am (UTC)Murphy's loving his life and is perfectly healthy apart from needing to drop half a kg. Guess I'll just have to keep trying to balance getting Milo to put weight on and Murphy losing it.
Defrosting the freezer is such a boring job, but so worth it in the end. It's so much easier when it's defrosted and for me, when I don't have to worry that the door will pop open.
The electrician is coming tomorrow so the first steps to get my bedroom back will happen then. Though the big job is Tuesday and getting a new ceiling.
The glass Christmas tree ornaments are gorgeous, and so incredibly delicate. I'm surprised they've lasted this long tbh.
I liked Corey's list, that he still loves books and sweets and geeky stuff, but he wants kitchen stuff too. It seemed perfect for a young adult.
