Thank you
frausorge for the beautiful Christmas card and lovely message ♥
The plasterers are here right now. When they first arrived they were worried that the job may take two days instead of one due to the wallpaper on the ceiling. We didn't put that there, it was there when we bought the house over 20 years ago so we had no idea it had been placed directly onto the plaster. But, apparently, it's coming off okay so fingers crossed, it'll stay a one-day job after all.
The dehumidifier is being picked up this afternoon and yesterday the electrician came to check things were safe wiring-wise and take down the ceiling lights, so all is a go again.
Because it's still so cold none of the snow has melted and has in fact, become icy in places. I was bringing some shopping back from the car yesterday and the postman saw I was laden down and asked if I wanted some help, which was very lovely of him. I managed myself though and when I got back to the house saw he'd delivered a birthday card for James, only nearly a fortnight late.
Along with the Royal Mail strikes the trains are still striking big time and I think it's really unwise that my in-laws are planning on going to visit after Christmas when the services will be in chaos. I'm aware it makes me sound bad but I'm hoping they stay home and my MiL only comes to ours for over New Year itself, because right now all I want to do in the week between Christmas and New Year is eat leftovers, watch Christmas tv and put my house back together, not host and have to provide meals three times a day.
We had a lovely day on Sunday, including going to see Kayleigh and Bodhi. Bodhi has been on the verge of walking for ages but found her feet a couple of weeks ago and now they can't keep her still. She's like a little pocket rocket. I'd bought her The Hungry Caterpillar Book plus a stuffed Caterpillar so we had a read of that together and I was shown the contents of her toy box multiple times.
After that we went to Durham to watch Matilda at the cinema. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to be back after not going to the cinema for a couple of weeks. Plus, Durham itself looked so pretty in the snow.
Some photos of Durham and James' lit-up leg which I said I'd share. Behind
This is the view directly in front of the cinema. I've shared them before I know, but it's so pretty.

James with his lit-up and bell-decked leg on his works day out. He's put the lights on for the last few years but I have to admit, I made him take the bells off the next day because there's only so long you can hear something jingle jangle.

Date: 2022-12-13 09:17 pm (UTC)I am also with you on the not wanting to do anything of significance after Christmas! Recovering from being over-stuffed is quite enough work.

Date: 2022-12-14 06:45 am (UTC)The time between Christmas is meant for lounging, wondering what day it is, eating leftovers and using your new stuff. I honestly don't know what my SiL and her family are thinking by planning on going anywhere by train in that period. It's going to be chaos.

Date: 2022-12-19 04:29 pm (UTC)I couldn't have coped with the bells on all the time. And to be honest, I suspect he would have had to take them off at work anyway. Lights are fine, jingling bells not so much.

Date: 2022-12-15 01:33 pm (UTC)That is a gorgeous view! Hee, the lights! (I would want the bells silenced, as well. *g*)

Date: 2022-12-15 07:17 pm (UTC)The week between Christmas and New Year's is the one time of the year you should absolutely NOT go traveling if you don't absolutely have to! Even without the strikes that time of the year is always madness! Hopefully they will reconsider their plans so that you don't have to miss out on your post-Christmas relaxation.
Go Bodhi!!
Durham is such a pretty little town!
James' leg is awesome! I totally understand why you nixed the bells though. Perpetual jingling is not something you want in your home!

I really don't know what they're thinking. I'll admit that I want my week of relaxing but that's not the only reason I think they're making bad choices. It's going to be chaos trying to get anywhere.

Not at all! They were fine for a busy night out in a noisy place. Not so much at home.

Date: 2022-12-17 07:22 am (UTC)I really hope you get your peaceful post-Christmas week! Every year, I always assume that week is going to be so cozy and relaxing and somehow it never lives up to my fantasy. Stupid obligations!

I'm still hoping for my peaceful post Christmas week, but suspect it won't happen. Oh well, I'm getting Boxing day which I love a lot, so that's something.

Date: 2022-12-19 07:24 am (UTC)Oh no! Are you okay after your fall? The forecast kept saying about a thaw happening over the weekend, but it was still bitterly cold and freezing yesterday. Then this morning all the snow had gone. I do hope it hasn't left ice behind.

Date: 2022-12-19 10:33 am (UTC)And, ha! James does indeed look festive!
Hopefully, your in-laws have rethought their plans by now, and the pasters have done a good job.

Sadly no, my in-laws haven't rethought their plans. I really don't understand what they're thinking. I get that he wants to see his family, but the disruption due to the rail strikes is going to be horrible.
