turps: (light in the snow)

Thank you [personal profile] frausorge for the beautiful Christmas card and lovely message ♥

The plasterers are here right now. When they first arrived they were worried that the job may take two days instead of one due to the wallpaper on the ceiling. We didn't put that there, it was there when we bought the house over 20 years ago so we had no idea it had been placed directly onto the plaster. But, apparently, it's coming off okay so fingers crossed, it'll stay a one-day job after all.

The dehumidifier is being picked up this afternoon and yesterday the electrician came to check things were safe wiring-wise and take down the ceiling lights, so all is a go again.

Because it's still so cold none of the snow has melted and has in fact, become icy in places. I was bringing some shopping back from the car yesterday and the postman saw I was laden down and asked if I wanted some help, which was very lovely of him. I managed myself though and when I got back to the house saw he'd delivered a birthday card for James, only nearly a fortnight late.

Along with the Royal Mail strikes the trains are still striking big time and I think it's really unwise that my in-laws are planning on going to visit after Christmas when the services will be in chaos. I'm aware it makes me sound bad but I'm hoping they stay home and my MiL only comes to ours for over New Year itself, because right now all I want to do in the week between Christmas and New Year is eat leftovers, watch Christmas tv and put my house back together, not host and have to provide meals three times a day.

We had a lovely day on Sunday, including going to see Kayleigh and Bodhi. Bodhi has been on the verge of walking for ages but found her feet a couple of weeks ago and now they can't keep her still. She's like a little pocket rocket. I'd bought her The Hungry Caterpillar Book plus a stuffed Caterpillar so we had a read of that together and I was shown the contents of her toy box multiple times.

After that we went to Durham to watch Matilda at the cinema. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to be back after not going to the cinema for a couple of weeks. Plus, Durham itself looked so pretty in the snow.

Some photos of Durham and James' lit-up leg which I said I'd share. Behind

This is the view directly in front of the cinema. I've shared them before I know, but it's so pretty.

James with his lit-up and bell-decked leg on his works day out. He's put the lights on for the last few years but I have to admit, I made him take the bells off the next day because there's only so long you can hear something jingle jangle.

Yay for spending time with Kayleigh and Bodhi!

That is a gorgeous view! Hee, the lights! (I would want the bells silenced, as well. *g*)
