May. 19th, 2023 03:54 pmWe went to see 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret' today and I enjoyed it a lot. Before we went James asked what it was about and still seemed puzzled when I told him, you know, like the book. It seems Judy Blume books weren't as important to him growing up as they were to me. But yeah, it did stay true to the book and it was such a good, lovely, coming-of-age film to watch. Set in the 70s but still feels current.
A bonus was we went to Metrocentre's Odeon and got tickets for the new IMax, laser screen and oh my goodness. What a place. The recliners were plush and so comfortable, everything felt and smelt new and the screen was so bright and perfect. It would be my new favourite screen if getting to Metrocentre wasn't such a pain to travel to, especially at weekends.
Tomorrow we're off to see Fast X and I'm looking forward to it. Not sure which cinema yet as we have to drop my SiL off somewhere first, but it'll be one of the Imax screens because those kinds of films are made for the big screen.
All the lights in the house tripped last night. I didn't realise until I was going to bed and tried to switch on the bathroom light. Never have I been so glad we paid that money to move and get a new fuse box. Before doing that fixing the fuse would have included getting the ladder and standing on the bench to reach the ceiling height fuse box, and having to change fuse wires. Last night all I did was come downstairs, open the cupboard door, lift up the flap to the fuse box and then push up the switch of the fuse that had tripped. So easy and a reminder that getting the electrics done was worth it.

Is it wrong I want to kick Bode repeatedly and then do it all again!?

Date: 2023-05-20 05:12 pm (UTC)Wow! That sounds like the old fuse box was quite an ordeal! Both my old and new houses have the type of fuses with the black on/off switch. If it won't stay on, the breaker needs to be replaced. I believe my parents' first house did have some sort of fuses that you had to unscrew the old one and screw in a new one back in if they blew. But at least it wasn't at ceiling height.

Date: 2023-05-23 04:30 pm (UTC)I honestly don't know why the house was built with the fuse box where it was. The estate we live on was built early 70s so not excessively old, so you'd think someone would have looked at the plans and thought a ceiling height fuse box really wasn't a good idea.
The on/off switches are so much easier and safer.

Date: 2023-05-20 06:04 pm (UTC)I'm so envious of you for your new fuse box! This flat still has the old kind of fuses and it's such a hassle having to change them when they break.

Date: 2023-05-23 04:25 pm (UTC)The new screen is amazing and we'd for sure go more often if it wasn't for the travel. The Metrocentre is the nearest huge mall to here and the main road getting to it is always jammed during the day. It doesn't help they're in the middle of a two year road works to widen the road. Which will be great when it's done, but right now means traffic often ends up crawling along for a long stretch.
Those fuses look so complicated. I hated having to change the fuses before and wish everyone could have the new kind that involve pushing a switch only.
