I was Bodhi sitting from mid-morning to about 6pm yesterday. She was a delight as always, but man, it's been a long time since I've looked after a two-year-old solo for that long. I was glad there was left over pizza to eat when I got home because yeah, a long day. But I got to play adventures with plastic giraffes, lions and tigers, watched many programmes about animals, sang twinkle twinkle together often, found juice, dummies, balls, and found I still had the knack of quickly changing a pull-up.

The day started early as James needed blood tests at the doctors

People may remember he has terrible trouble giving blood, but last time he had them done at the hospital the nurse fashioned a sort of hot water bottle out of plastic gloves filled with warm water and laid that on his hand and I guess it helps the veins or something, and they got blood that way.

Yesterday, I filled a double layered zip lock bag with warm water and while he was waiting at the doctors, he rested that over his hand. Again, the nurse got the blood easily, so thank you to that hospital nurse for a great tip.

They were testing James because he'd gone into pre-diabetes levels last time, but he has made diet changes, so hopefully that will be reflected in the results.

While there he also got his flu shot and covid booster, so medically got lots of stuff done within half an hour.

As expected, I got my flu shot when I had my B12 last Friday. Though I think the nurse that gave me mine used a javelin technique as I have a big bruise on the flu shoulder and a smaller one on the B12 side, and despite having those every three months for years that was the first time they'd ever bruised.

I couldn't get my Covid booster yesterday at the doctors as their slots for carers don't start until next week, but I can go to a local pharmacy already, so I may arrange that for next time I'm out.



After James dropped me off at Kayleigh's, he went to see his work physiotherapist. Apparently it was a good visit, but it was a one and done, as there's not really much they can do with James' ligaments and joints being fixed. Mainly the advice was to keep up with his good hand's flexibility and to always try to walk a bit, even on bad days, so he doesn't stiffen up even more. So no new information but worth checking.

And that was yesterday. I didn't even watch the new Bake Off as I was so tired I knew I wouldn't last until 9:30 when it ended.

I'm impressed you made it so long with Bodhi! (My sister watched her grandson while my niece worked, and man, I don't know how she did that for almost two years with no help).

Good luck to James with his pre-diabetes. I totally fell off the wagon.

Yay for Bodhi time! But I agree, spending even a couple of hours with a toddler is TIRING!

That was clever of you to think if doing the baggie trick! *fingers crossed* that James's diet changes did the trick.

Now that we've had our weekend away I need to make an appointment to get my flu and covid vaccines. For the first time I'll be getting them both at the same time.

Time with a toddler really is tiring, and Kayleigh has literally just messaged asking if I can babysit three more times this week. I must have passed the solo extended hours babysitting test *g*

The baggie trick worked so well. Though the nurse at the doctors did think he'd walked in carrying a fish in a bag, which made me laugh.

It makes a lot of sense to get both vaccines done at once if you can. I've got mine booked for tomorrow, so that'll be another thing off the list.

I was so tired. Regular extended babysitting will either make me fitter, or finish me off!

Kayleigh has just messaged and asked if I can babysit for two extended periods and one of a couple of hours this month. I'm happy to do so but hope they're nice days so we can go for a walk, because so long in a small house is a lot of contained toddler energy!

I really hope James blood tests come back improved, he has been trying for diet changes, but as we all know, they're hard to do and especially keep up.

That is quite a full day's work of child care! But I'm glad you and Bodhi had some fun together. And that you got to relax with pizza afterward!

And that's awesome that your portable hot water solution made the blood draw easier - very clever!

I'm waiting eagerly for the covid shots to become available at my doctor's office.

It was a long day. Hopefully, next time the weather will be better so we can go out and break the time up a bit.

The hot water solution is great, and nothing we would have ever thought about ourselves. So I remain glad that hospital nurse suggested it.

I've got my covid jab booked for tomorrow, at the pharmacy this time. Hope you get yours soon.

Sounds like you'd a fun but exhausting day toddler-sitting.

It's amazing that such a simple thing as a hot water bottle could have such a great effect! That nurse deserves so many kudos!! I'll keep my fingers crossed the diet changes have had the intended effect for James.

She really does. I had no idea that hot water would help either, but in James' case it obviously does.
