Oct. 30th, 2023 11:57 amWhat idiot put all the clocks back Saturday night apart from the one next to the bed, meaning a four thirty wake up this morning? This idiot. Of course, by the time I'd realised the actual time I'd woken up and there was no point trying for another hour.
mini_wrimo is open again for sign-ups. Considering I've managed a whole 3 stories this year, I think I'm going to sign for 100 words a day and hope for the best.
The main bus company in my area has gone on an indefinite strike, with a minimum of 12 weeks being mentioned. I don't use the buses often myself, but it's having a knock on effect with taxi fares shooting up. Kayleigh and some of her friends wanted to get an Uber to a Halloween event on Saturday and were told £40 one way, while surge pricing would have meant the journey home would be much more. Which is why James took them and brought them back, and we had a late night Saturday.
I enjoyed Strictly on Saturday, Layton and Nikita's tango was great but what I'm putting it here for is because of the backflip at the end which I thought was amazing.
The video is behind the cut and the start of the flip is 1:40 and really, highlight of the routine for me.
And just because they look so good.

Then the Sunday result show pro dance was Wednesday themed and Nikita was dressed in a black skirt/kilt, and an excellent jumper and just, come on now. I can only take so much!
I'm so incredibly invested in the Layton/Nikita pairing this year, so much so I've had to stop reading in certain places because of the people complaining about Layton. Not so much that he's a ringer, because he very much is, though to a lesser extent others are too on the show, but they don't get the same amount of criticism, but the fact he's danced wearing dresses. Saying if he wants a same-sex dance pairing to dance dressed as a man, but he is. Just one that choses to wear dresses at times. Some people man, they're not good for my blood pressure.

Date: 2023-10-30 01:50 pm (UTC)That sucks about the taxi prices going up because of the strike. It was nice of James to be their chauffeur.

Date: 2023-10-30 02:44 pm (UTC)He ended up taking four people to the event and back. There was supposed to be five but no way could that many people fit in the car.
Some taxi firms have been good and have listed set prices between popular places for during the week, saying that they'll go back to the meter on the weekends, which is fair enough. But others are just taking advantage of the people who are stuck without the buses.

Date: 2023-10-31 12:53 pm (UTC)Totally. Facebook is full of community groups pulling together with lift shares so kids can get to school and people to work etc. Then there's some taxi drivers who just have £ in their eyes.

Date: 2023-11-02 08:04 pm (UTC)Oh no, bus strikes are horrible! I really feel for all daily commuters!

Date: 2023-11-03 03:53 pm (UTC)The bus strikes are causing so many issues. Right now our town is completely cut off in terms of public transport and the bus drivers are still not giving a date to come back. One local pub has arranged a private bus that will loop between here and the nearest town from 10 to 6, with people giving a donation for the ride. But that doesn't help commuters and the kids trying to get to school.

It is!

I've had to stop myself reading the comments in some places because they're so horrible. It's always a shock to see how bigoted some people can be.
