I got an email saying I'd won the August draw from one of my survey community sites. It was a second prize of a £50 e-card, and at first I was suspicious it could be a scam. But no, my name was actually in the news part of the site, and the actual link to get the e-card arrived yesterday. Now I need to decide what to pick as there's a big choice, from restaurants, to coffee chains, to supermarkets and lots of other places. I suspect that as tempting as a £50 Costa card is, I'll end up going for the Amazon option.
Also, as much as we enjoyed the Olympics, we're enjoying watching the Paralympics even more. So when James saw that the official Olympic mascot had been adapted for the Paras, to have a runner's blade prosthetic leg, he really wanted the plushie version. Last week I ordered one, and yesterday

Monday was weight management class. I walked down and got to test out my Pixel Buds for the first time. They're the first buds I've actually owned, and I was impressed with them. Though, need to learn how to control via the touching the bud settings as the sound proofing was so good I had to keep taking one bud out while I crossed any roads, otherwise I couldn't hear anything but music. Also, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory is a good album to get your blood pumping as you walk to class. Just saying.
The topic this week was motivation, which was interesting enough but do wish that because of the bank holiday, we hadn't missed last weeks topic which was metabolism, which sounded much more interesting.
We talked about breaking things down into small goals, and health rather than weight being the end goal. When we talked about what our personal motivations were, I said mobility. I've been at the point where I worried I'd end up stuck in a bed or wouldn't be able to leave the house due to walking being so difficult, and no way do I want that to happen again, so yeah, my motivation. I also liked being able to talk to the other group members and knowing none of them were judging.
The exercise part was also a bit different as there are no classes for the next two weeks as Rosie is off on her annual leave, so half the spots on the circuit included body weight exercises that could be done at home — calf raises, stage push-ups, and lunges supported with a chair. Which were hard! I'd rather do a thousand upper body reps than something concentrated on my legs.
Rosie has also started to push me a little. Each spot on the circuit has different levels, so one spot had sit/stands from a chair holding either the 5 kg grab bag or the 10 kg kettlebell. Or, you could do squats holding either of those two, so yeah, I ended up doing squats holding the kettlebell. She's a slave driver! Add in the behind the head lifts with a heavy dumbbell and I had noodle arms when I was done.
Yesterday I got a text from Rosie saying, due to my success in the programme, would I take part in a case study, which would include answering some questions and her taking some photos while at the drop in session. Or else, if I have some photos I like myself she could use them, whatever I was comfortable with.
I took a while to think about taking part, but in the end, thinking back to how scared I was before taking part in my first class. I just want anyone reading to know if I can do it, anyone can. So, said I was happy to take part, and for her to take photos, though anyone who sees my Monday insta stories will know I always look a sweaty mess. So, good luck making them look good, Rosie!
