Sep. 27th, 2024 10:52 amEvery morning I play a couple of tap games on my iPad, one of those is The Simpsons Tapped Out, and today when I played it updated to say the game is finishing, will be taken from the app store soon and the ability to play at all will be stopped at the end of Jan next year.
I played through the very last quest, and it was very meta and very bittersweet, with the characters thanking the developers over the years, and also thanking the players while gently mocking them for poking at a screen for twelve years. Then gave thousands of donuts -- the in game currency -- and free buildings that generate donuts, the idea being for the loyal players to get as much paid content before the end.
I'll miss the game when it goes, I downloaded it in Dec 2012, so have been playing almost as long as the game has been around, and it's a gentle, non-thinking way to ease into a day, and also end the day.
The day also started, finding a dead mouse at the foot of the stairs. Not sure what moggy was responsible for that, but Kevin looked very proud when he picked it up, and I had to chase him around the house before he tried to eat it.
James was supposed to have a hospital appointment this morning, but the consultant's secretary phoned yesterday and said he'd been put with that surgeon by mistake and was actually supposed to be seeing someone with an interest in AMC. So, that appointment was cancelled and another will be made next month sometime.
I was quite pleased it was cancelled tbh as we also have to see Rosie for our one-to-ones at 1:30, then we're picking our nephew and niece up from school, then James has a phone meeting with his team leader to arrange going back to work again next week. So, a slower morning was a bonus.

Sounds like a busy day without that appointment!

Date: 2024-09-28 02:16 pm (UTC)I could do without gifts of Kevin's love. Though, I'd rather the cats dealt with the mouse than one running around the house.
Yeah, it was busy, but at least I could have a quiet morning.

Hooray for a slower morning!

Date: 2024-09-29 03:37 pm (UTC)Oh man, yeah. A live mouse would have been even worse. Or a gory one. Which, thankfully, this one wasn't, it was fully intact.
Slower mornings make days much easier.

I'm glad your superbusy day ended up a bit more spaced out, that will be a lot better!

Date: 2024-09-29 03:55 pm (UTC)As presents go, I wish Kevin had picked something else! On the plus side, it was lying at the foot of the stairs and I did see it before stepping down. Which admittedly, gave Kevin time to snatch it up, but better that than mouse foot.

Date: 2024-10-07 02:53 pm (UTC)The hints have been there that it would close for a while. They still released new quests, but they were very formulaic, unlike years ago when the quests were much more fun and the new characters that were released were really niche, maybe seen in one episode for a few seconds.
But saying that, I will miss the game a lot. It's so easy to play, and has been something I've done for a very long time.

Date: 2024-10-09 12:28 pm (UTC)I'm glad about that, too.
They've also thrown thousands of doughnuts -- the in game currency -- at players and released loads of previously locked content. So, I guess they want people to end things on a high.
