Feb. 15th, 2025 11:16 amBriefly as I'm heading out for the cinema soon.
I enjoyed the new Bridget Jones film much more than I expected, it helped it was in my favourite cinema screen too.
The visit to Mog on the Tyne was lovely, but also sad. One of the cats had already gone to its furever home, and two more are going before the official close date. Plus, it was obvious the staff were really sad about things, with the manager especially upset. They did say it's a financial shut-down due to an oversaturated market, which isn't really that surprising with three other cat cafés in the area and a dog café literally next door.
I was looking at photos before I went, and our first visit was Feb 2016, a few months after they first opened. I'll miss them.
Yesterday we went for a visit to Beamish Open Air Museum instead of going swimming. It was bitter cold but instead of getting transport we walked between the different areas, so soon warmed up. I shared a cone of chips and a cup of tea from the fish shop with James, and that was our valentine's meal *g*
As opposed to Kayleigh and Lucy who went the whole hog with their Valentine's Day, candles, electric thank goodness, going up the stairs, rose petals, heart balloons and multiple presents to each other. It was like Valentine's Day had exploded in their house.
Pauline phoned wanting to put on a birthday tea for me. It was going to be Thursday, but has just phoned to say she's realised that's after my birthday, so would tomorrow be okay instead. I said yes, forgetting we're actually going to The Rock Orchestrate by Candlelight at the theatre tomorrow.
Thankfully, she asked us to hers at 3, so there should be time for both. I'm looking forward to the show so much, I mean, look at this setlist from a show a few days ago.
I was curious what MCR song they'd perform and can't be disappointed at Black Parade.
I suppose I should go and get ready to go out. At least the weather isn't as bad as forecast, there was a yellow warning for snow and ice, but that was cancelled overnight and the few snow flurries we had haven't settled. So, big coat time again, but at least no snow.

Date: 2025-02-15 12:34 pm (UTC)It's really too bad the cafe has to close. I bet it was very bittersweet to be there.
I made Pip the flavor cake he likes (not my usual chocolate, which is my fave *g*) and that was the extent of our Valentine's Day celebration.

Date: 2025-02-15 05:09 pm (UTC)Had no idea there was a new Bridget Jones coming out until I saw the posters around town. Didn't love the previous one but maybe I should give this one a go, I think people are saying it's better.

Date: 2025-02-15 07:34 pm (UTC)It's so sad the Mog is closing!! I've always loved hearing of your visits.
A visit to Beamish, even on a cold day, sounds like a great way to celebrate Valentine's.
Your description of Kayleigh and Lucy's Valentine made me giggle.
I hope you will have lots of fun tomorrow, both at the tea and at the theatre! (I finished your birthday gift today so hopefully it won't get there TOO long after the day.)

Date: 2025-02-16 10:05 am (UTC)It was really sad seeing the cats had already started to leave Mog. They're all going to great homes, including many with the staff. But the place seemed just that little bit empty already.
I really enjoyed our visit to Beamish. Having the year-long ticket is such a good thing when we can just pop in for a visit without paying any extra.
Kayleigh and Lucy's Valentine was Valentine's Day to the max. Electric candles on every stair, over the bed, rose petals, helium balloons on every ceiling, then with presents on top. They enjoyed themselves, though.
Considering you've been in pain and not yourself, that you finished anything at all is fantastic, so thank you <3
I'm sure I will enjoy today. I've been looking forward to the show and hope it's as good as I expect.

Date: 2025-02-16 10:08 am (UTC)I did enjoy this Bridget better than the last one. There were a lot of nods to past films throughout, but what I liked was the cast didn't shy away from the fact they were all older.

Date: 2025-02-16 10:10 am (UTC)Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, which are always welcome, no matter how early.
Funnily enough, I have nothing planned on my actual birthday. I should have kept the film for Tuesday, really. But will enjoy the celebrating today.

Date: 2025-02-16 10:16 am (UTC)Bittersweet was right, especially as the staff were obviously upset at times. They were saying that they'd been really busy lately, obviously with people coming for last visits, but too little too late.
That sounds like an excellent Valentine's Day celebration, too! Cake is always a good choice. I'd say after so long together we were well past all the lovely dovey stuff. But the fact is, we've never been that way. In fact, I've long banned James buying me flowers on the day, as I hate how the shops push the prices up.

Date: 2025-02-16 02:59 pm (UTC)I think I'd be feeling a little bitter about the large crowds now as an employee.
Yeah, it's so commercial. If I buy flowers for myself I get the Walmart $10 special. They're pretty little bouquets and last a good while.

Ohh have fun! That sounds like a great set list!

Date: 2025-02-17 07:40 am (UTC)I was glad the cats had homes too, most going to staff members, so they will be good homes.
The show was amazing! I had such a good time.

Sounds perfect, and you're right about it being commercial. Sometimes simple is best.
