I need an opinion from you all.

I've been writing a lot of ficlets lately, do you think it's worth putting them on my website? I mean, they're unbetaed, which makes me nervous and they're so short I don't know if it's worth keep putting them up there.

So, any thoughts? Do people actually read ficlets on websites?

I wondered the same about the ficlets I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] fic_request. But I know I'd want to read your ficlets and please put them on your website! :-)

I read ficlets on websites if I don't have to click a billion times to get to each one. They need to have a decent word to click ratio.

It's something I've been wondering for a while. I really don't know if people want to read something so short, I know I do, but I tend to read anything *g*

I guess if one person would read it means others would too. Thanks for your opinion :)

Good point.

So say, one click to get to a ficlet menu page, then one to the ficlet would be okay?

I like being able to find the ficlets, so posting them to your webspace would be great.

I read them, and I post mine to my fic journal. (someday I'll have them at the webpage. lol)

and for the ones that have never been beta read. I just give them a quick spell check and/or I put on them "not beta read."

*snuggles you* How's the joey fic coming?

Well, I think you should put 'em up, but then I love pretty much everything you write lol But yeah, I read ficlets on websites, I'm mor elikely to read omsehitn short than long. Apathy abounds *g*

I think I will. Maybe have a mess with my site in the morning.

Which reminds me. I meant to comment when you were talking about your domain, if you need any money for it don't hesitate to say. I'd pay something for sure.

Messing with sites is fun lol
I'll see how it goes. It'll probably be alright. I'll get the renewal stuff sorted out and see how much it all is. Thanks for the offer honey *g*

I really like starting my day with some slash - shut up! - and ficlets are perfect for that. Just as long as it says clearly that it's ficlets, so you don't get disappointed if you've settled in for something of 'Book of secrets' length.

I take you point about the warning.

Thanks for telling me what you think.

Hey, you have a Justin icon! Is it new or have I just never looked past the pretty Chris pics to see it?

Post them.

There are probably lots of people who would like to read them, but not for the trouble of wading through comments on several journals.
On the other hand, if someone does not, how annoyed can they really be, if there is a ficlet page noone forces them to click the link to.

And if it seems to much trouble, maybe a collection of the links would do for the ficlets.

Good idea, to put they're not beta read.

The Joey fic is coming on slowly. I'm going to sit and do it in the morning, that should get a good chunk of it done. How's yours going?

*hugs you*

Some kind person (named Joy) made it for me, but I don't use it often. I am so much more a Chris girl than a Justin girl. Every once in a while, I dust it off. :-)

Definitely post them, if you want to. Many people enjoy reading ficlets. Personally, I tend to skip things that don't have summaries. It's probably best to either list all the ficlets together (labeled as ficlets) or give them their own index page. I'm not usually annoyed when I click a link and it's a ficlet, I'm more annoyed when it doesn't say how many parts and you just keep finding a "next" link at the bottom of the page. It's nice to know how many parts are involved before you start reading a story.

I'm still waiting for some industrious person to create the [livejournal.com profile] fiq_requests archives. There are things I'd like to go back and read, but I've forgotten which threads they're on. It would be lovely to have the [livejournal.com profile] fiq_requests archive by author and by pairings. Perhaps one day.

I list all my snippets together under the heading 'shorts'. I don't actually know if anyone *reads* them, though. I guess, since they don't take up much space, and they don't take long to HTML, then it doesn't matter much if people do or don't.

I also list the file size for all my stories, which gives people an idea of what they're getting. I suppose I could put actual word counts intead, which would be even more accurate.

I agree with the above!

Post 'em!

You could just have them all on a single page & just be done with it, or perhaps (if you're feeling industrious, or need a project to work on to avoid doing something else, lol...) a "pairing page" with links to pages with the various ficlets on it. Then it'd be already to go in the future, and you'd be free to add more without worry that eventually you'd end up with this overcrowded Page o' Ficlets.

Just my two cents, keep the change ;)

Posting ficlets

My feeling is, why not? You're not twisting anyone's arm -- if they don't want to read ficlets, they can pass on by.

As for advising that they are (a) short and (b) not beta-read, I'd suggest (c) approximate length, right next to the title. I just past my finished fic in Word, then I can tell people, "Oh, it's about 2 1/2 pages" or "It's short, just 4 pages." Or whatever.

That way people who are under time constraints, can have an estimate. So you'd have --

Story Title A (about 30K, or 1-1/2 Word pages)
Story Title B (about 20K, or 1 Word page)

I know people's page format varies, but this will give them at least a general indication.

Just a thought.

what they all said previously, I think it would work well to have one ofthose pages where the ficlets are all listed at the top with all the stories (as links) on the same page. If you click on the title it drops you farther down the page to that specific story, or just scroll down to read them.

I do. Not always, there are times when, for whatever reason, all I want is a long, good fic that'll keep me reading for h-o-u-r-s. But, yes, ficlets, I do read those on sites.

You sound like me. I prefer a good long story, but sometimes a ficlet can hit the spot. However, most times I admit I end up wanting more, because I'm a greedy bitch ;)

I've uploaded them and put them on their own ficlet page so no one will think they're getting a long story and end up with something really short.

It's the naming thing that's getting me, I've been calling them Chris/Nick snippet etc not real names, now I have a load with the same title.

Also, way to go at getting the ball rolling for a [Unknown site tag] archive. It's a wonderful idea.

Good idea about the file size. I think I'll do that.

They're uploaded.

What I've done is a list at the top with the pairings. Each one has a tag to drop the reader to that pairing in the list. Hopefully that will keep it simple.

Thanks for the opinion!

I'll have to drop by and see your ficlets' new home! I've seen sites where ficlets aren't really titled. More like Ficlet #1, Ficlet #2, Ficlet #3, etc. I think the ficlets are just as happy either way. :)

If I had more energy and better computer skills, I would have tried that ficlet archive on my own, but I know it's going to be a lot of work to keep up on. I was just thinking, the community is only a month or two old now and look at all the ficlets already! Just imagine what there will be in a few months. It's better to start an archive now rather than wait. And it will be so much easier to find your old favorites and maybe find a ficlet with your favorite pairing that you've missed. I'm very excited that someone is doing it!
