Sep. 25th, 2015 08:13 amIt's been a week.
You may remember the wet room drain had blocked. Well, we got that sorted but in the process managed to flood the bathroom, so the water dripped through the floor, into the kitchen ceiling and soaked one of the kitchen light fittings, which blew the fuses for the ceiling lights in the living room, kitchen, toilet, hallway and landing. Our fuse box is the old fashioned kind that needs wires, and is also situated at ceiling hight over the kitchen units. It was usually Corey's job to change fuses, but of course he isn't here so it was up to me and James. We managed, but as soon as the new fuse wire was in the lights crackled and the fuse went again.
In the end we were without those lights for three days, and I got a bath of dirty, freezing blocked shower water that had gathered in the bowl part of the fitting when an electrician recommended unscrewing the light fitting to allow it to dry quicker. After that and another new fuse the lights started working again, thankfully.
Then we had a leak at the other side of the kitchen when the boiler packed up. It leaked everywhere, but thankfully as the boiler is in the airing cupboard the towels and bedding soaked up most of the water. For a while we had no hot water or heating, but now, nearly £300 later, that's fixed too, and we're still washing and drying batches of towels and bedding. But, to look on the bright side, at least it didn't happen in winter, that would have sucked.
Dad is home from hospital. He's going for his first appointment with the cancer specialist on Monday so we'll know more concrete news then. I'm just glad he's home for Pauline's birthday meal/gathering tomorrow. Most of her family and friends are going and it'll do them both good to get out and relax. Even when he was in hospital dad was saying it had to go on, even if he couldn't go. But of course it wouldn't have been the same. They've booked a room in the hotel where we're having the meal, so if he gets tired it'll be easy enough to slip away.
And on Tuesday I went for my ( gastric balloon )
In conclusion, a bit of a hectic week but thing are okay for all at the moment.
