Last night I managed to unplug my computer while hooking a shoe from underneath the desk, because I really am that stupid. The LJ entry I was writing went, as did a mail and my Word file. After that I went and read in bed, because at that point I was on the verge of hitting my computer with the shoe. The auto save on Word meant I didn't lose anything there, which is typical as that was the one thing with the least added.

I won't try to do that post again, mainly because all I was doing was ranting about BSB fic and a story that made me want to shake the writer and ask if she'd ever seen the people she was writing about and also did she know Kevin and Nick would have been dead ten times over with the things that happened to them, never mind checking themselves out of hospital and running away together. Because really the last thing they needed after being sexually tortured and made to sleep together was to run away. Also, imbedded sounds in webpages. Why?! There was one site that had a flute that played every time you went back to it, and it drove me nuts until I turned off my speakers.

Writing is still going slowly, I might concentrate on the JC ficathon for a while, see if that kick starts my brain. Not that I'm holding out much hope *g*

My effort at re-creating your rant:

BSB fic in which people clearly never read anything about the BSB and don't even like them that much...yeah. I don't get it. If you don't give a shit about them, why are you writing fic? I can see if you were forced to by a lost bet with your best friend or something, but if your effort turns out awkward and you know it's noncanonical, don't post it. Everyone's got something that they wrote as an indulgence and know isn't the best thing they did, but most people keep it to themselves.

I get so frustrated liking Boys fic as well as Nsync. There's so much choice in the Nsync fandom, then you get to backstreet and once you've gone past certain writers all you're left with is lame Mary Sues and appalling characterisation. If I never have to read another 'mean stern evil Kevin' story it'll be too soon.

Too many people seem to use Backstreet as the 'bad guys' and it's annoying. You're totally right, if you don't like them don't write them. I can excuse a lot but not stories where it's obvious the writer doesn't give a damn.

I wish good Nsync authors could overcome their initial prejudice against getting to know the BSB, watching footage, and finding out information, but unfortunately stories like Coldhearted set the fandom bar for characterization. Brian is a homophobic, boring religious nut, Nick's a lumbering lunkhead, Howie's rice pudding, AJ's walking kink, and Kevin has no character at all.

BSB fic can be horrific, and really I don't rant about much but when I've read the tenth story with evil!Kevin it gets old.

The story with the sexual torture only had Nick and Kevin in, because they'd been kidnapped. Kevin had his hands nailed to a chair, was whipped, forced to blow someone then tied to Nick so they had to fuck. Nick was raped with dildos, had clamps attached to his body, electrocuted, shot, ribs broken and more. I read to that part when Kevin ripped his hands free and they were taken to hospital, but gave up when Kevin then told the police it was a prank that had gone wrong so he didn't have to admit to the sexual abuse! Yeah right.
