Aug. 29th, 2004 12:45 pmJames must be one of the most unobservant people ever. We have this plant, George, we bought it when we moved in together so over the years it had grown huge. George reached the ceiling, bent over then went along it horizontal for a few feet. Problem was George was getting spindly, especially as he had a new shoot at the bottom that was growing like crazy too. We often talked about pruning him, but it was George, he'd been with us from day one. A couple of days ago I decided sentiment was doing George no favours, so I cut him down to the new shoot. James didn't notice even though the corner of the room was now minus a huge plant. This was George at the beginning of the year, and he missed he was gone for days!
He finally saw this morning, when he told me I should have waited so he could see George one last time before he was pruned. He also wasn't happy that the cut parts were in the bin. I wonder what I was supposed to do? Bury him?
I now have a shiny new Gmail account from
castalie and spent a good while last night poking around to see what features it has. I'm using it as a backup for my spotty BT addy but if anyone wants to know the addy it's turps33@gmail.com
Reading
castalie's journal she was talking about one of her first TS stories she read and it got me thinking. The very first fanfic story I read was for Poltergeist the Legacy. I loved that show, still do, and didn't have a computer at the time so I'd go online at the library. I was very new to the internet and looked up a PtL site ( which then frightened the life out of me as it had an embedded sound file of a wolf howl. Remember I was in the library *g* ) There was a link on that to PtL fanfic, only gen of course and I used to go down to the library and read for an hour each day. We finally got our own computer and I looked up Voyager and soon found Paris/Torres fanfic and became a major P/T shipper. I wish I could remember the first Trek story I read but I really can't. I soon decided to branch out and went link surfing and ended at Yahoo groups. If you've been there you know there's categories at the top and I saw the slash one but dismissed it as I don't like horror films so why would I want to read slasher stories? Fastforward a few weeks when I couldn't find any new P/T fic so I clicked the link, and then sort of went OH MY GOD! It was like coming home. My first Chakotay/Paris story was something called Broken Wings and it was a Paris n/c story ( which wasn't at all unusual I soon found ) and I read and became addicted in minutes. I can't remember the first stories in every fandom I've read in, but the major ones I can. MY TS addiction was due to
castalie who sent me this story and was in raptures about this wonderful archive 852 Prospect. The story was No Islands Anymore. Right Mouse, or was it Shards of Glass? For BSB I read The Grace Series then spent time at the pit of voles reading BSB fic. I crossed over to Nsync when I read Select Company which is a Kevin/Joey Chris/Lance pairing then spent a long time reading cross-overs before I found Synchronik's site, specifically Mother Hen which turned me into both a boys and Nsync fan. Which brings us to now *g*
Man, this post is getting long. Thank goodness for LJ cuts. One last thing. Yesterday I noticed that some of the sheep on the moors have JRT painted on them. Of course this led me to thinking of an AU where Justin is a farmer. He speeds around the moors on his quad bike and sheep dogs with his main man Chris. Chris has worked on the moors for most of life knows every inch of the place. He has a battered quad that he loves and a dog called Shep that looks like a mutt but is the best herder in the area. Together they can find any lost animal. He's friends with Justin and they ride together sometimes just for fun. Lance and JC are shearers that come once a year to shear and other times to help with odd jobs. They stay for as long as needed, living in one of the outbuildings. They're friends with both Justin and Chris, a friendship that's easily picked up even though they meet only a few times a year. Joey runs the local pub which is well known for it's live music. He takes no crap and will sling anyone out on their ear if they start trouble, but he's also one of the friendliest men you could meet.
Okay, really going now, except for one thing. I installed JC saying like that doncha from
chrismm for my e-mail notification, and it keeps scaring the bloody life out of me!

*laughs*
*reads again*
*giggles* Wha'?! Come on, you know this is one of my favourite comic lines ever, right? *blinks innocently*
How I love those little trips down memory lane, I won't ever tire of listening to them, no matter how many times I do *g* And yes, it was No Islands Anymore *g*
I also remember my very first HL story, Abomination. Pretty easy to remember since I started with "A" and it was the first story! lol It was Gen but intense one with Methos Torture and the like. I found about slash soon after though *g*

I thought it was No Islands Anymore, it's still an excellent story.
That's cheating with the HL story, going alphabetically, but a great story to start with. It's like my list, I was looking at them and two are n/c and one is domestic abuse. I sure know how to pick them *eg*

Date: 2004-08-29 07:13 am (UTC)Setting stories in England is great fun! :)
You get to use amusing things like tetley's, yorkshire pudding, butties and the weather!
Men, grunting about the weather, talking about sheep, playing dominos and drinking tetleys.
It'll be Emmerdale!NSYNC
