turpsThe first of the We All Float Down Here story descriptions. Posted on here for my own reference.
Remember, these are my opinions and I love darkfic so what I think isn't that horrific may differ to other people. Also, there be big spoilers in here, so click the cut at your own risk.
I'll add each story as I read it.
The Ways Things Really Are.
I read this yesterday and it stayed with me for a long time. Focussing on Lance from when he first joined Nsync it's hard to read. Very hard to read. No one cares about him or his happiness and he's seen as second best, the only singer they could find. I hated the other guys in this. JC and his pinches, the way Joey pretended to like Lance so he could have blow jobs, and there was a scene where I detest Chris, and it takes a lot for me to feel like that. There's also the added Lou factor ( Lance is made to blow him and it's hinted that it happens often ) which adds another element of despair to the whole thing. I ached for Lance all the way through, but maybe mostly at the end, when he changes, fitting in with the nastiness around him. I assume he toughened up to stop himself being destroyed emotionally and the contrast between the beginning of the story when he was innocent and the end where he uses the girl, taking what he needs from her and leaving her naked and bruised in the corridor is shocking.
This story is all about emotional pain to me, and I loved it.
Moonlit Hunt
Chris is a werewolf. Remember what I said about pushing the line? This is what I mean. The first part sets the scene, telling us he's a werewolf without saying the words. It's the second part that I enjoyed as he picks up the scent of prey and you realise that it has to be someone he knows. The scene where he kills is gory and then he wakes and realises that the bloody remains are JC. But for me the horror wasn't the killing, though that was bad, it was the fact that he revels in the beast by the end of the story, letting his human self be swept away.
I suspect I know who wrote this, in fact I'm 90% sure ;)
Food
This was another one I read yesterday and it made me reel. At first glance it seems bad enough, Justin working in a meat factory, then you realise what he's really doing and god, I hope you're not eating when reading this. The utter horror of imagining what's going on makes me shiver, I don't even know if I want to write it down because reading it with a warning would dilute the story so much.
There's one part in particular that hits me hard, especially as the story is so visual. I can imagine exactly what the scene looks like and it's an image that won't leave my brain.
This story is genius, and I'm in awe of the person that wrote it. It's sick, twisted, fucked up and I love it to bits.
Silver Pain
Justin is an alien with a taste for eating rats and bonding people to him.
Lovers
A vampire story with Chris as the vampire. This is all about Justin, a story with many layers that I haven't fully managed to get into yet. On the surface it's Justin bringing a girl to Chris so he can drink from her, yet it's so much more than that as Justin seems to want to be the girl. I think Justin has been letting Chris drink from a little but Chris holds himself back. They seem to be in this strange dependant relationship that I haven't quite got yet.
I enjoyed the story but would love to know what other people think as I'm positive I'm missing something.
Something Wicked This Way Comes
I've been sitting here a while wondering what to write about this, because I keep thinking it may have been written by a friend and I'd hate to hurt their feelings, but it just didn't work for me. Sorry :(
It's written in the style of a letter directed at us the readers. It's also an AU where Justin is stabbed to death, then JC, Joey and Lance ( in different places except for Joey and Lance). The writer says he doesn't want to share their final moments but I wanted to read them. I wanted to read about Justin's last movements as he realised someone he thought of as a friend was killing him. Or if Joey and Lance fought back, anything. The cutting off of the genitals was gory I suppose but it lacked something for me. All I could think of was what he did with them. Use them as a dildo maybe? Okay, I'm a sick puppy, sue me.
In the end we find out it's CK doing all this, which people should have guessed before due to a matter of elimination. So to sum up, a nice enough story, just not one of my favourites.
Baby Sister.
A story about Jamie Lynn Spears. I didn't think I'd like this at first as I know nothing about the Spears family, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.
The story starts a month after Britney's marriage and her mom is still furious. There's a feel of a fairy tale as Jamie Lynn tries to take Britney's place and by the end with the help of a locked room, veiled clothes and an enchanted locket she literally gets her wish. I enjoyed this and was willing Jamie Lynn not to enter the locked room. The ending is particularly harsh and we're shown that while the outside may be beautiful things may be agony inside.
Let Us Hold Your Banner High
Another one of my favourites. Starting with Chris having sex with a 14 year Justin is a daring start, even if it's not graphic at all. This hits all my thoughts about Timbertrick, how its slightly seedy but in a way I want to read. ( Man, when I finish these I'm going to be mass defriended I'm sure ). Again this is an uncomfortable story to read, but in a background way that makes you tense a little. Chris knows exploiting Justin is wrong yet still sleeps with him, unable to stop.
This story is incredibly visual and there's a scene where JC fucks Chris fucks JC that I found blistering hot, especially as it's sex bound up in a mind fuck. After that Chris discovers Disney have perfected mind control, experimenting on the MMC people, which actually wouldn't surprise me. It's a cool twist and explains why Justin's so perfect and JC just that little bit less so.
I mentioned this story is all about the visuals and there's part at the end that kills me, when JC kills Justin and Chris is watching. Justin is begging Chris to help him, and it's just...it hits me full on. I really can't do this story justice writing about it here, it's easily one of my favourites.
