Nov. 4th, 2004 06:21 pmNow back to the e-mail I was writing before.
Happy birthday to the wonderful
autumnyte. I haven't known you long but know you're a sweetheart. I hope today's been fantastic for you.
I went searching for Malcolm in the Middle slash last night and found very little. Every link seemed to lead back to this one Francis/Stanley tame bdsm story which was okay but I wasn't put off and kept reading until I found two Francis/Malcolm stories and discovered that yes, I still have no morals ;) I also read the most god awful MitM stories at FFNet, gaping at how terrible the things were. However, I then moved onto A-Team and Highlander stories and found some decent stuff that kept me happy, even if it was...gasp, gen.
LJ is being a bitch and only notifying me about a proportion of comments which is annoying. I mean if you get none at least you go to check but when it's a few you don't realise that you didn't get it until you see while reading another comment, and that sentence made no sense at all but work with me here *g*
I hope you've all joined up for SeSa, at least those of you who like the sparkly stuff, and if you don't why not? Just kidding, Jim/Blair are just as good *pets them* and my sweetie Brennan too. I can't help sitting thinking about what assignment I may get, imagining the worst case scenario. JoLa for a good writer anyone *shudders* but it's a good shudder, the shudder of anticipation.

Date: 2004-11-04 10:31 am (UTC)Now may I take a moment to reveal my complete newbieness and ask what the heck the SeSa is? I've seen it mentioned all over and I still have no clue what it is, and have hitherto been too embarrassed to ask.

Date: 2004-11-04 10:52 am (UTC)I dont do sesa. never have. never will.
does that make me a bad person?

Date: 2004-11-04 11:05 am (UTC)I get that a lot of people don't do the challenge thing and SeSa is a lot of pressure. I fully support anyone that doesn't want to do that.
Though I would be overjoyed if I got you for SeSa, but as it is I'm content with the stuff you do write.
I hope you didn't think I was being mean about non sesa people because I didn't intend that at all.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:14 am (UTC)Okay, SeSa is popslash's Secret Santa. It's a pretty big thing that's been running for a few years now. It's run on the lines as most secret santas I guess. You join, pick a pairing and situation you want someone to write for you and in return have to write for someone else. You have to pick two out of these choices, pure Nsync pairing, pure backstreet pairing and crossover. Then the person who gets assigned you gets to pick which of those two pairings they write. That's done so the Backstreet people get a bigger presence.
It's a load of fun, as you've seen it's a big thing and the reveal of all the stories on Christmas eve is cool. All the stories stay anon until the new year so there's lots of guessing going on.
Anyway, I'm not that good at explaining but the site is here (http://www.juppy.org/santa/index.php). If you have time I'd really consider doing it.
What they also do for new popslash writers is offer mentors who are established fans who work with newbies or anyone who needs them, usually on a one to one basis. I worked with Jae_W last year and she was a huge help when I was assigned a pairing that freaked me out at first.
And I bet that's clear as mud *g* Just ask if you have questions.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:15 am (UTC)You're going to produce the best SeSa stories ever, I know you are.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:26 am (UTC)Last year I got JuC and while I don't really read the pairing all that often and never considered writing it, I did my best and my recipient seemed to like it. So, that's good. I'm kind of looking forward to getting the assignment, but I'm also a bit afraid. I really worry that I'm not able to write something decent or what if my recipient is an author I really admire (like you) ... wah! I should never have signed up. I'm already panicking and I don't even have my assignment yet.
*goes into hiding*

Date: 2004-11-04 11:39 am (UTC)I was assigned Joey/JC or JC/Nick last year, looked at the e-mail and went arghhhh! *g* I was writing for
I'm really looking forward to seeing my assignment but at the same time afraid too. My biggest fear is getting something saying I need to write for a well known kick ass writer...eep.
You totally should have signed up! I'd be overjoyed if you got me for your assignment because you're a good writer who cares about what she writes and that's the best thing ever.
So stop hiding!

Date: 2004-11-04 11:42 am (UTC)That looks like so much fun, and on the one hand I'd love to participate. I'm afraid my writing isn't up to par compared to other writers, and I wouldn't want to disappoint someone. Also, I don't know anything about BSB slash, and am not at all convinced I could pull it off, were I to be given that pairing. Hmm.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:45 am (UTC)nah I knew you werent being mean I was just playing :)
I'll never do SeSa because I will only write Chris. period.
and I know if I did it I'd get someone who wanted like Justin and JC.
and the majority of people don't like the kind of stuff I write.
so yeah. thats pretty much it.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:53 am (UTC)I don't think I've been assigned a Chris pairing yet in the challenges I've joined. So far I've had JoLa, JuC and JoC. At least there's no lambs in that list ;)
and the majority of people don't like the kind of stuff I write.
Because they're idiots. It's that simple.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:56 am (UTC)Thanks for saying this :-), but I'm not always very confident about my writing. I mean, I always try my best. This has to count for something too, I think. I signed up again, because I enjoyed the process so much last year. I just hope I can write a satisfying story for my recipient.

Date: 2004-11-04 11:59 am (UTC)Also, you can indicate if you're more comfortable writing Nsync, BSB or both if you're worried about that. I suspect if you tick Nsync only you'd get a Nsync pairing and a cross over then all you'd have to do is write the Nsync one.
It's fun really. Just don't quote me on that when I'm stressing two weeks before Christmas *g*

Date: 2004-11-04 12:00 pm (UTC)Also, this year you can specify that you'll only get an assignment with a NSync pairing. That takes the pressure off a little bit.

Date: 2004-11-04 12:09 pm (UTC)Hmmm. That's a nice way to look at it.
I can't believe this, but I'm actually seriously considering signing up. Unless I can talk myself out of it. I've never had the nerve to sign up for any type of fic challenge/exchange before.

So I'm guessing you like Lance? ;)

Date: 2004-11-04 12:31 pm (UTC)Plus there's the thing about you getting a story to your own specifications. That's always a good thing.

Date: 2004-11-04 12:34 pm (UTC)Just a tiny little bit *g*.
I thought about it for a long time if I should pick Trickyfish or JoLa for my SeSa pairing, but in the end JoLa won. There was this craving, there's not enough Joey slash and with Lance together *yum*.
