As part of keeping the MX archive current I visit FanFicNet regularly. Today I saw a story that stunned me -- in a bad way.
You have to search through the dross there, as it's true what they say, FFN attracts the worst writers. For example, there's 600 MX stories, I'd say about 500 of those are Mary Sues with new mutants called Jewel etc that fall in love with one of the guys...vomit. You can find great stories but it's rare.
Today I saw one that just puzzled me. In the intro the author had put 'warning -- story sucks' so why put the bloody thing out in public then? I don't deny anyone the choice to write, but putting it out into public when you know it sucks, what the hell's up with that? Unless the writer wants to be reassured that they don't suck, and that's just as bad.
The story itself wasn't bad, I've read worse, at least this writer knew what paragraphs are, unlike some writers there. However, any points she gained were lost in the authors notes when she admitted she'd never seen the show, and you could tell. She even mixed up the hair colour of one of the main characters, giving Emma blonde hair when she's either had dark or red hair depending on the season.
Then again goes on and says this: Note: This is my most awful work, so please forgive! I was writing this at 3am:) and I say again WTF! Why archive it then?
