Our trip to the beach didn't go as expected last night.

First we broke down on the sliproad onto the duel carriageway. Thankfully it was the sliproad because man, those cars were flying past at a horrific speed. As it was our car nearly got swiped a few times by people not looking forward as they filtered into the main traffic. One person stopped the whole time we were there, a woman saying she'd take Corey and me to the next town. But we stayed put, and I tell you, after spending almost an hour sitting on a bank at the roadside I was damn happy to see the RAC van appear.

After that we headed off to pick up the MiL and FiL. They live close to the coast and as we neared their town we saw thick blankets of fog rolling towards us. By the time we got to the sea it was so foggy you couldn't see a thing. But we stayed a while, watching Corey dig on a foggy beach.

Then when we'd dropped them off and were heading home I saw what at first looked like a bundle of rags in the road. Driving closer I saw it was a person, curled on their side and lying on the floor. They were lying in a filthy alley and I knew I couldn't just leave them there. The thing was, I didn't want to approach them either. James' parents live in a rough town, and this was a dark alley behind the shops and I could have approached and ended up with a knife to the leg, but at the same time, that was a person lying there. In the end we phoned the police and stayed close until they arrived, but man, I still feel kind of guilty about not doing more.

So that was our trip to the coast. We're heading out again soon. A meeting at the rugby club first as they're thinking of disbanding the mini teams, then we're taking the FiL, MiL and my mam to Whitby. This is either going to be a great day or one that'll leave me wanting to bash my head against a brick wall. Fingers crossed it'll be the first.

ETA: Mam just phoned and said she can't go. Colour me unsurprised.

You did the right thing, hon! Approaching someone in that type of situation is beyond dangerous! You got the person help - that's the right thing to do!

I hope today turns out to be a great day! :)

Yeah, I know you're all right that not approaching was the right thing to do. It just felt wrong at the time.

I had a lovely day, thank you!
