The Dragon challenge authors have been revealed, so I guess I can say that I wrote Seven Plus One Equals None.

It's a crack fic, simple as. I had no ideas for the challenge at all, except for this vague thought of Kevin as Snow White, because it fits. He's dark haired, fair of face ( he is, shut up! ) and of course the dwarves could be sparkly cast. At this point I emailed [livejournal.com profile] ephemera and told her, I'm having Snow White thoughts, talk me out of them. She didn't. In fact what she did was bring it up when I was down at [livejournal.com profile] nopseud's for a mini sparkly meet up. Now these are the people who birthed Lamp, Pecker and all sorts of insanity. As soon as they were told I knew I'd be writing crack, and I did.

Some people liked the story, others didn't at all. I expected that. I mean, Kevin was the main character, I had Prince and Pete Wentz as two of the dwarves. There's no relationships except for some Kevin/Nick if you squint. Plus, humour is subjective, what I find funny may not translate to other people. But man, I did enjoy writing this. Even thought it wasn't trouble free. I owe [livejournal.com profile] nopseud, [livejournal.com profile] vaudevilles and [livejournal.com profile] mkstranny so much for their advice, support and beta skills. At one point all three beta read for me over night, because I suck and the story was so late. They made me look at the story, change things, add things, just made it better in so many ways. Sadly the gay dwarf orgy didn't make it in there *g*

It isn't an important story. It's not going to strike any hearts or be remembered, but you know. I like JC the online advice giver. I love Snarky, Winky, Twitchy, Emoey, Porno, The Artist Formally Known As Squeaky and Smiley. Joey made a good Avon man and you know Kevin would whip those dwarves into shape. So, I'm glad a couple of other people enjoyed it too, and despite the crit I read, I wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe add in that orgy. You know dwarves give good head ;)

Thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] pensnest for running such an awesome challenge. There were so many stories I loved this year. Dragons rule!

ETA: Clearing confusion for those that need it. Snarky = Lance. Twitchy = Chris. Winky = Howie. Porno = AJ. Smiley = Brian. Emoey = Pete Wentz. The Artist Formally Known As Squeaky = Prince.

It really throws me that you didn't get lots of comments, I thought everyone loved cracky humour stories! I wonder why. Perhaps because many people only read Nsync stories and they thought this would be a Backstreet-only story so they didn't even start reading it, or because it had Kevin as the main protagonist? Kevin really is sadly underappreciated *pouts* Don't people see how fantastic he is?!?!!!

I got 4 comments in total. One from one of my betas, who I knew liked it anyway. One from Pen, then you and bellamyrose.

It really makes me think about the whole anonymous feedback thing. I mean, just in this thread people are saying that they read and liked the story, yet didn't do so when no names were attached. Which makes me wonder why not.

Then again, you're right about Kevin too. He puts a lot of people off, and that annoys me a little. He is underappreciated and I suspect that some people just stopped reading when it looked like it was a Kevin centric story.

I don't know. And I hope it doesn't look like I'm fishing for comments, because I'm not at all. I got some lovely comments, and was recced, which is awesome.

Mind you, I suspect a lot of people read from the top of the list, and as it is an alphabetical list, your story was quite near the end... It may also be the fact that this is a website thing rather than on LJ, and we all get so used to leaving comments that sending emails maybe seems Too Serious. Hmm. I've been wondering about anonymous commenting, and if I start up this pop discussion/meta/thingy community, that'll be an early topic.

As for the dwarves, hmm - it probably helps to have been in on a very silly conversation during which some of them were christened... If you do feel like expanding the story, I could do with seeing more of the dwarves! I mean, they don't *have* to get naked. Koff.

But people who don't read because of Kevin? Pah! Pah, I say!

I'd love to see a discussion about commenting. It does seem as if it changes depending on how a story is posted. I know I get far less comments if something is posted off LJ. Which may be due to the LJ comment fuction being so easy. Plus I think seeing other comments encourages people to leave their own.

But I do like the challenges where the authors are anonymous at first, and think yours ran wonderfully.

I think the dwarf scenes could have been extended easily, maybe not in the actual story, but after sure. They're fun! A little Snarky/Twitchy would hit the spot *g*

I'm pretty much going to have to do this discussion community, I think! If you have any ideas on how to frame what kind of thing it's going to be, do let me know...

I wonder if people don't leave feedback on anonymous stories because they don't feel any "connection" to the writer unless they know who it is? It doesn't matter to me because I think feel "connected" to everyone in the fandom no matter if I know them or not, we're all popslash fans you know? (I hope Pen starts that community because I have lots of unformed thoughts about why I like anonymous challenges :-)
