Nov. 2nd, 2007 02:56 pmBy now you may know that DWNOGA is no more. When I first joined this fandom, it was SeSa that prompted me to produce my first popslash story. I'll always remember that year, I was so green, and was absolutely terrified when I signed up, especially when I was assigned JC/Joey or JC/Nick. The only thing that got me past it was the mentor scheme. I asked
jae_w if she'd help me, and she agreed. She was wonderful, so patient with this newbie who knew so little. Of course, I was so green I didn't know she was well known as an awesome writer. If I had no way would I have approached her.
I loved that first SeSa, and have loved every one since. The one where I got assigned JuC for one of the best loved JuC writers. That was the year I wrote a story so bad I was basically told by my betas that it needed to be scrapped. Which I did, about a week away from deadline. Then in that next insane week I wrote a new story, one I loved a lot.
The one where I was asked for timbertrick, by someone with a flocked journal and no 'dear Santa' letter. So I was writing blind. I ended up changing huge things up to the last minute, but also made a friend of the recipient, one I still have today.
The one where I was assigned trickyfish, and ended up with a story that I still adore now, and one people seemed to like in return.
There's so many good memories, and not so good. Nights when all I wanted to do was delete the damn file and be done with it, but kept on going, surrounded by people who were feeling the same.
I'll miss DWNOGA. Pet and Georgina have been wonderful for the last 6 years. The popslash SeSa is amazing, so many stories have been produced, and I can never thank them enough for what they've given our fandom.
Saying that, I'm going to love the new challenge too. Make the Yuletide Gay is being run by amazing people, people who believe in this fandom, people who love this fandom. I know it's going to be fantastic, and believe me, as soon as the dates to join are sorted out, I'll be joining, and praying for no GSF *g*.
I know change is difficult. I know that a lot of people have moved on to new shiny fandoms. But remember the love you have for these men. The glee when you watched the footage, saw interviews, fell in love with men who wore sparkles and loved it. That love is still there.

Fear me, for my pimping stick is pointy.

Date: 2007-11-02 03:42 pm (UTC)I have considered it in the past and have dipped my feet into the challenge waters here and there lately. The reasons I hesitate are many-- I'm a TrickC girl at heart and I like to write just them. Maybe throw in Joey somewhere on occasion. Even then I'm shaky with my writing there. I know that I'll get a pairing that I haven't written and I don't want to disappoint that other person. I know also that this is a challenge--and it's good to step outside and do something different. So I kind of shy away from things like this. LOL I mainly just leave it up to awesome writers like you who can write just about everything.
Did I mention I'm a Libra who is indecisive and analytical? LOL
The words of Yoda echo in my head "Do or do not- there is no try". We shall see. Even now I have TrickC plot bunnies in my head just itching to be written LOL

Date: 2007-11-02 04:29 pm (UTC)It's very sad, but time marches on. Man, did they run an awesome challenge. I'm a reader not a writer, but from out here, it seemed smooth and organized and respectful and as close to wank-free as you can get and still be dealing with actual humans. And awesome, awesome stories over and over again. Rockin'...

Date: 2007-11-02 05:07 pm (UTC)I wish I had even the little bit of talent to contribute in writing, but alas I suck lol so I'm even more grateful to all of you who over the years gave us so many amazing stories. And I'm looking forward to many more :)))

Date: 2007-11-02 05:09 pm (UTC)However, my surgery is Nov. 26th and I don't know how intense recovery is going to be after that. It could be really easy or it could be insane. I don't want to commit to a challenge and then have to bail. While I know Eph would totally understand if I emailed her crying "omg pain blahblah" I don't know the other mods.
And whee! I'm all medicated today and babbling. shutting up now.

Date: 2007-11-02 06:01 pm (UTC)While I don't want to push you, you could maybe get the majority of the story posted before surgery? That is if you'd really like to join in. Which I'd love you to, because your stories are lovely.
As for the mods. I know them all, and believe me, you couldn't meet a nicer bunch of people.
