Nov. 27th, 2013 05:42 pmAdvice needed. Corey made popcorn in a stainless steel pan and managed to burn it. He did clean the pan but no matter how much scrubbing he's done, and I've done, there are still burnt shadows of the kernels stuck to the bottom of the pan. I've scrubbed it, soaked it, scrubbed some more, but they're not coming off. I was going to try bar keepers friend but seem to have lost my bottle. So, I don't suppose anyone has any handy tips?
We had a nice day out with dad last Friday. Drove him to the hospital and James went to his speech appointment. I would have been happy to go in too but I ended up hanging in the car for an hour. Which was fine, there was a lot of people watching to do and music to listen to.
Then, after dad came out he asked if we wanted to go out for dinner. After picking Pauline up we went to this pub that served the most amazing food. Seriously, it was the best I've tasted for a long time. Sadly it came with a price to match. At least, it was expensive for us when we're more used to eating out at Subway or McDonalds prices, or if we're pushing the boat out, two course special for cheap at our favourite beach front restaurant. Dad actually paid for us all, even though we offered to chip in, so that was great. Then we made arrangements to go out tomorrow, too, this time hitting a Thai restaurant that both dad and Pauline love but can't get to at the moment.
Sadly, when we went to nanna's on Sunday we found out that Pauline's mam had died on the Saturday, so dad said the trip out was off. So, instead we arranged with nanna to take her on her yearly trip to Metrocenter to see the lights. She's looking forward to it, though has said that depending on how she feels may not be up to walking far so we may have to change the trip to dinner out somewhere we can get to easily in the car. It'll be sad if she can't manage to see the lights as it's something we've done for a long time, but she is in her mid nineties, and really, walking around malls at that age has to be a strain.
So yeah, that's all arranged. Except, Pauline just phoned to ask about plans for tomorrow as it seems dad cancelled without asking her, or telling her he'd done so. She didn't seem impressed and I feel bad that we can't go out with them, but cancelling nanna this late would suck for her and gah. Why aren't clones invented yet?
I'm getting into a very Christmas'ey mood lately. All my presents I've been buying online have started to arrive and I've booked the pre Christmas grocery delivery slot. It's held with many slabs of cat food at the moment and I must remember to change that next month or the cats will have an awesome feed at Christmas and we'll have nothing.
For a while we thought James was going to be off over Christmas. He'd arranged a night shift swap with someone, but that person also arranged a day shift swap with someone else on Boxing day, which would have meant he'd be working for a full 24 hours, something that obviously couldn't happen. So James is working nights Christmas day, boxing day and the day after. Which is fine, someone still has to take the calls and if he does have to work night shifts starting on Christmas day are the best option. It means he'll be there for present opening, the big dinner, and then head out around seven. Then no doubt sleep during boxing day while I prepare the boxing day buffet. Hmmmm, I can taste that turkey, stuffing and mint sandwich now.
I've also been watching a lot of Christmas movies. Sky is full of them at the moment and I have a special fondness of the cheesetastic movies on the Christmas movie channel. So much so that all the details are starting to merge together in a melting point of sad children, little old ladies, minor disasters, lights and food, lots and lots of food.
What I've also been watching is The Almighty Johnsons, getting through three seasons worth lately.
krisipanics got me into it, and I'm so glad that she did. It's a show about modern Norse God brothers who live in New Zealand and it has things that I love. Kick ass ladies and powers and bros who don't like each other at times but in the end always have each other's backs. It also has canon gender swap of one of the main male characters in one episode, h/c and actual sex tears. Also, more sex than you can shake a stick at. It's good stuff, though the fandom is a little sparse.
Writing has been going okay, slow but steady. I also have thoughts about Mikey's twit longer post which I may actually share one day. That is when I eventually get over my eye rolling about the people who complained that he never denied he actually cheated, then when he finally did so said he was lying.

Date: 2013-12-03 05:14 pm (UTC)I want to say so much about the twitlonger and the situation in general. Mainly my confusion that in a fandom that tends to be respectful and supportive about mental illness in other fans, why that respect and support doesn't seem to extend to Mikey as well.
Or that so many people who embraced the every snowflake is different concept can't seem to cope with someone who is in a relationship that's not the so-called norm, even if that difference is only age related.
I mean, sure, he's said things that have made me cringe at times and I wish he'd mentioned Alicia by name. But both he and Sarah have denied any cheating and no one knows what went on in his and Alicia's relationship. What else do people want? For him to get down on his knees and beg for forgiveness for separating from his wife and falling for someone else. For him to stay with Alicia evenif they'd fallen out of love?
Gah, sorry. I just get annoyed sometimes. And this is why it's probably best I don't share what I feel.

Christmas movies are the best. ♥

Yule is the best holiday ever!!
It's good to hear that it sounds like you're going to have a good holiday even with James working night.

Date: 2013-12-03 04:31 pm (UTC)We did have a good day. She's slowing still, but we managed to get to see the lights and decorations, then went for dinner after.
I plan on having a fantastic holiday, like I keep reminding James. His shift could have been much worse.

Date: 2013-12-03 04:28 pm (UTC)The Johnson brothers are great! And yes, Michelle is awesome. One thing I really love is that the women have lots of sex, too, and are never shamed for it. That's so refreshing.
