Summary:
I actually planned to write a fill for Sperrywink pretty much as soon as I saw her stocking, and after seeing her prompts decided it was the perfect time to dip my toes into MCU. But at the same time I was so nervous about doing so, because even if winterhawk isn't one of the big ships, the fandom itself is huge and it felt very intimidating to throw my effort out there. Which is where
glitteryv came in. I reached out and asked if she'd beta, and she said yes and did an amazing, detailed job on top of discussing characterisation with me and reassuring that I wouldn't be laughed at for this first effort. So, huge thanks again, Luce. You were a lifesaver.
The bandom fill was like pulling on a pair of old comfy slippers, reminding me what I'd been missing while I wasn't writing at all. While The Musketeers fill was just me having fun and imagining them in a modern big city at Christmas setting.
The Good Place was the other fandom I hadn't written before. I'd just marathoned the show, and it was good to try and capture the feel of the programme and the voice of the characters. I liked the end result, and so did the person I wrote for, so I'm calling it a success.
In fact I'm calling fandom stocking as a whole a success. Maybe I'll even hang my own stocking if it runs again.
Finally, thank you to
sperrywink for the encouragement to join in, and for checking over three fills. You're awesome ♥

Date: 2019-01-20 10:17 am (UTC)I’m glad you did some new stuff, MCU is pretty intimidating but it sounds like you had fun!
Yeah, I’ll definitely do my own one next year if it runs

Date: 2019-01-20 10:31 am (UTC)I did have fun. But it did feel intimidating. I've been in bandom so long that I know a load of people, so posting stuff for our fandom isn't an issue. But a new fandom? Yikes!
I hope you do. Love the icon, btw!

Date: 2019-01-20 02:16 pm (UTC)I’m glad! Oh yeah, I feel that. It’s always intimidating writing for new people too (I was nervous writing the bandom holidays fic for you!)
Thanks! I had to use it after your comment about topless sweaty Ray *swoons*

Date: 2019-01-20 06:09 pm (UTC)Somehow, I hadn't really noticed Fandom Stocking until you tapped me to beta? Tho, given how the combined DDDD: of the Tumblr Fuckening and my general seasonal blues around December, it's fairly easy to see why I wasn't aware it was a thing.
Anyhoo, I'm super glad that you participated and that ended up writing so much stuff! \o/

Date: 2019-01-20 06:27 pm (UTC)I can easily see how that happened. I actually only joined the comm about a week or so ago. Last year I just wrote a last minute fill that Sperrywink pointed me to as she knew I knew the fandom. Then this year I just did a few fills but didn't hang my own stocking. Maybe next time. But I do know it's a busy/bad time of year for a lot of people.
I'm pleased with my writing self atm. What with the stockings and bandom holidays it feels like I'm actually active in fandom again, and that's great.
