May. 11th, 2020 05:21 pmWe seem to be getting mail about once a week lately, and today I got the most beautiful card and message from
pensnest. Thank you again, Pen ♥
Exciting times, the tip reopened today and I've booked a slot for next Tuesday to get rid of some rubbish. Mainly garden stuff as I need to clean out the area where the fence will be fixed, but also some house stuff that can go. The whole thing is very regimented, you have to book your half-hour slot and display your printed out appointment/permit on your windscreen along with proof you actually live in the area.
I've just been reading the Our Plans to Rebuild document and it makes a lot more sense than Boris' broadcast last night. It's good to have a little bit more clarity and I'm glad we've got masks to wear, even if they'll only really be needed for shopping. And you know I'll be heading to the beach for a walk once travel restrictions are relaxed on Wednesday. I've missed it, so close yet so far.
I've mixed feelings about pubs being able to maybe think about reopening in July, depending on being able to maintain social distancing, though how they'd do that I'm not sure. My first reaction was happiness as it means Corey will be able to go back to work and hopefully start looking for his new place. But knowing the place where he works and how crowded it gets I really don't know how they could make it work. I know in terms of risk he is low in terms of catching the virus and being seriously ill, but it's still a risk that's there. So yeah, happy and also worried.
Same about the cinemas maybe reopening in July, my initial reaction was YAY! then reality hit and I started to wonder how they'd make it work. Before lockdown Odeon wouldn't let people book seats next to each other, so I'd imagine they'd keep that up. But would it be enough?
All I do know is, I'm going to be very wary of crowds and crowded places for a very long time.
James has had to take days off he'd built up from being off sick, so is off from today until a week on Wednesday. Then back a week or so then is off for a fortnight. He always takes those two weeks as it's our wedding anniversary and when we try to go on our holidays abroad. I guess this year it'll be another staycation.
I finally watched the last episodes of The Good Place last night. I'm going to miss that show.

Date: 2020-05-13 04:24 am (UTC)Everything I've been seeing (from sources I trust, that is) seems to indicate that sitting in an enclosed space with other people for any length of time is still very risky. So yeah, idk about bars and theaters.
I hope you and James both get to relax thoroughly during your anniversary vacation, even if you're doing that at home! (and happy anniversary!)

Yeah. I was talking to Corey last night and we both agree there's no real way to keep people apart in bars, especially as he works in a student/party city. No way will they keep to any rules. Thankfully they've extended the furlough scheme to October so he should be fine money-wise.
Same about theatres. Like I said my initial reaction was very positive about going back to those places. But then the realities fall into place as I remembered why it would be a bad idea.
For now, I'm content with the small step forward we do have, especially as you can now meet one person who isn't from your immediate household as long as you keep apart and in an open place. So, you know I'm going to see Corey soon for a walk in the park next to his house.

Date: 2020-05-13 05:13 pm (UTC)Here's they've just reduced the price to £10 a pick up for 10 items, but I'm cheap and will haul it to the dump for free.

Whatever you end up doing instead of going abroad I hope you'll have a very nice anniverary!

Date: 2020-05-14 04:16 pm (UTC)I've been to the beach \o/ It was great and so easy to stay the right distance away from other people. Unlike when I walk into town.
I'm sure we'll have a nice anniversary. Probably get a takeaway or something. Though, as of now, non-essential shops can re-open on June 1st. I think our anniversary is a good excuse to nip into Lush *g*
Or, more realistically, just be glad it is open again as I suspect the shops will be really busy that day, which I'll be keeping away from.

Date: 2020-05-14 04:59 pm (UTC)Masks have been recommended here for when you're on public transport or shopping where social distancing would be difficult, but they're not legally needed so it's about half and half in terms of people wearing them.
It's so difficult, these little steps forward, all the time being aware if the numbers go up again things may go back to a full lockdown.
Yeah, I think a drive, walk and a take away meal will be the way to go. Plenty of resturants are offering deliveries or pick up, so we'll have to splash out a bit.

Date: 2020-05-15 04:09 pm (UTC)For one thing, I am abt 3000% sure that a lot of ppl are NOT going to follow the rules (w/r/t wearing face masks, keeping a distance, not being in groups larger than 10 ppl, etc.) Like, the city tried to reopen one park and had to close it down within 2 days because a full half of the ppl were NOT following the protocols. So, like, there's that.
On a personal note, I have 0 intentions of going into a movie theater for the rest of the year. Yup, I said the rest of the year. No only there aren't any movies that I am dying to see coming out this year, I simply don't feel safe in a darkened room with strangers. *hands*
Like, I'd feel relatively safer at a drive-in because ppl are in their individual cars and there IS some space in between. Plus being outside in the open air. Unfortch, there aren't many drive-in movie theaters around. :(
Meanwhile, I'm kinda fretting abt the 3 flights I'm scheduled to take in Sept, Oct., and Nov. respectively. Tho, at least 2 of them depend on whether or not MCR does goes ahead with the US tour this year. *Sigh*
Hooray for James' staycation. ;)
