Dec. 14th, 2020 05:49 pmThank you
rikes,
saba1789,
pensnest for the cards, and
turlough for the gift which is now under the tree. You're all stars ♥
Kayleigh surprised me by bringing me a lovely poinsettia this morning. Some of you may remember two years back when she wouldn't celebrate Christmas at all so I took her a tiny poinsettia knowing it would be the only thing she'd display. Now here we are and she's ridiculously happy, getting married in the new year and is very content. It's very lovely to see.
Then it was off grocery shopping because I realised today that with James going back to work on Friday, and then working all next week until the day before Christmas eve, we only had four shopping days left. Not that it's bad, I've got an Asda delivery booked and all the Christmas gifts apart from odds and ends have been bought. But I still needed some things from the actual shops, so off we went. And yeah, I know it's six shopping days technically, but I really don't want to be out and about the weekend before Christmas.
But, I've sent off parcels and international cards -- though goodness knows when they'll arrive, and have the UK ones ready to post tomorrow so feel on top of things.
Getting home we got great news. James' uncle will be getting the COVID vaccination at the weekend. He's classed as extremely critically vulnerable so has been strictly shielding since the beginning of the year, but both he and his wife will be getting the vaccine. Too late for the family Christmas he wants so badly but it's amazing to think they're actually getting it. The first people I know personally to do so.

That sounds very smart of you. Just thinking of having to visit the shops the weekend before Christmas makes me tired.
Go you! I'll keep my fingers crossed everything will arrive in time! (I felt so accomplished when I got mine sent over a week before the final date but I'm fully prepared to hear that some didn't get delivered until after the holidays. That always seems to happen somehow.)
That's so good to hear about James' uncle. I don't think vaccination here in Sweden will start until January.

Date: 2020-12-14 09:44 pm (UTC)What brilliant news for James' uncle - it might not get them their Christmas, but SUCH a big light at the end of the tunnel for them.

Date: 2020-12-15 08:38 am (UTC)And congrats on being so on top of your preparations. I do have my international stuff out, but I still have a handful of cards to write and presents to buy, so I've got to get organized about that soon!

Exactly. They're such a lovely couple and James' uncle has been through a lot this year. So this is fantastic for them.

Date: 2020-12-15 10:03 am (UTC)Kayleigh's very happy. I just hope the wedding goes ahead next month.
It's strange because inside the shops don't tend to be so busy, but that's because you have to queue in the first place to get in in order to maintain social distancing. I really don't want to have to go to multiple queues and wait in the cold. So, getting it done this week is for the best.
Thank you! It felt good when the parcels and cards were handed over. I hope they do get there in time but the post is worse than usual right now. Staff shortages on top of the usual Christmas rush have done a number on Royal Mail.
I can still hardly believe the vaccination is here, and January isn't far away at all really. This year is flying by.

Date: 2020-12-15 10:05 am (UTC)I'm sure it will. They've been so careful this year, not mixing at all and I know they're desperate to meet up with family but really couldn't take the risk. So this vaccination will be great for them.
Thank you! Though it has helped that half of my nieces and nephews just wanted money this year. Getting money envelopes is so much easier than looking for gifts.

Date: 2020-12-15 11:09 am (UTC)God, I know! I can't believe it's finally happening! The first U.S. citizen was vaccinated yesterday and it was a woman from my borough! I'm low priority, non-essential, etc., so who knows when they'll get around to me, but progress is being made and it's SO GOOD TO SEE IT.

Date: 2020-12-15 12:49 pm (UTC)It's such fabulous news about the vaccine. I'm loving seeing the news as each country approve and start to administer versions.

That's brilliant news! Like you I doubt I'll get it any time soon, but seeing all the people who do need it badly is fantastic. Finally, that end is in sight. Maybe a distant sight, but there.
