Jan. 10th, 2021 09:52 amJames had his first COVID vaccine on Thursday and despite a bit of an achy arm and feeling a bit grotty Friday, is fine now. So that's a relief. He gets the second one at the end of February, which is longer than originally stated, but still, first step done.
We had lying snow for two days, and it got really cold, so the snow is now all icy, which makes walking difficult. Plus, as always, the only roads that get gritted are the major ones, so getting in and off the estate is dicey. We had to go out yesterday for some grocery shopping and cat litter, and while it was treacherous underfoot, it was lovely to see kids and adults sledging on the hill near our house. Of course, the weather also brings out the idiots, like the two people in cars who were using the completely iced up Lidl carpark opposite our house to do ice doughnuts at midnight.
My MiL is supposed to be getting a hospital bed delivered today. She pretty much lives in her recliner so when it broke last week it really affected her badly. Problem is though, it's a special bariatric recliner and after an assessment, it was decided a hospital bed would be better for her. I remember thinking after her fall at Christmas she probably wouldn't leave her house again, and I fear that more now. She's not dying or anything, but between the state her legs are in and her weight, I can see her being bed-bound apart from getting up for the toilet.
I don't know what was up yesterday, but I was exhausted. If it wasn't for wanting to watch The Masked Singer, which I always try to watch on the shown date due to spoilers, I would have been heading to bed before 8. Instead, I was up there not long after 9 so have had some good sleep and feel much better. So, plans for today are to finish the last bags of Christmas parsnips and make a roast dinner, change the airstone on the fish tank as it has been making a horrible buzzing noise for days, get James' work shirts ironed and then all the online catching up. Included in that, reading more Snowflake responses because I was reminded of so many old shows I enjoyed yesterday, as well as seeing some I need to check out.

Date: 2021-01-10 02:48 pm (UTC)it's good your MiL is getting a bed that will hopefully help her, but it does seem like a bit of a decline. even if she spent most of her time in a recliner, there's more a sense of freedom or something not being in bed almost full-time

Date: 2021-01-10 05:04 pm (UTC)Yeah, I agree, it does seem like a decline. Having an actual hospital bed in the front room seems to scream ill health so much more than a recliner. Plus, I suspect it'll be harder for her to get out of the bed, as opposed to now when the recliner helped her stand.

Date: 2021-01-11 10:35 am (UTC)Ahahaha yeah, I'd rather eat donuts that see them done on ice. Crazy is right, often I thought they were going to crash through the Lidl storefront.
Sadly the bed still hasn't arrived. It's turned into a bit of a mess.

Date: 2021-01-12 12:31 pm (UTC)Ice doughnuts sound annoying, but also like something I would absolutely eat, no questions asked.
I hope the hospital bed mess gets sorted out, and that this ends up being a positive change for your MIL!

I'm with you there, ice doughnuts do sound nice. But man, those drivers were crazy!
I think once the bed is installed she's going to feel a lot better. It's just getting to that point. It's taking a load or organising and people in her house which isn't ideal.

Date: 2021-01-12 01:27 pm (UTC)Have you got YakTrax for the ice? They're fairly miraculous, and good when the ice is there but not super thick (spikies are better when it's thick).
Your poor MiL, that's been such a tough thing <3

Date: 2021-01-12 04:27 pm (UTC)I don't have YakTrax but I know about them and will look some up because it looks like this icy weather is here for a while. I hate walking on ice, I always feel so unsafe.
Yeah, my MiL isn't having a good time right now. She tried so hard to walk before Christmas, too.

Date: 2021-01-12 04:58 pm (UTC)Trying to walk on icy roads is no fun at all so you have all my sympathy!
I feel for your MiL!
I hope your roast dinner was just as tasty as I imagine it was!

Date: 2021-01-13 04:06 pm (UTC)I hate walking on ice. Deep, crunchy snow is okay, wet is okay, but ice, nope.
My roast dinner was tasty, like a very mini Christmas dinner. I really should buy parsnips and roast them more often, as I really do like them.
