I'm assuming that my The Umbrella Academy story The Sexth Sense must have been recced somewhere because it's had a flurry of comments this morning. Add in other comments from again, I'm assuming, Snowflake self recs for bandom and I'm feeling the comment love this morning.

I went for a walk at the beach yesterday. It was crisp and sunny and it was lovely to get out and stretch my legs. I'm glad I did as today it's grey and dull with rain, rain, and then more rain forecast for the rest of the week. Oh well, not like I'm going anywhere except for the postbox after midday, but after that, I'll be back home where my plans are to watch Wandavision and then read more fic that I've tabbed due to Snowflake.

RL wise. My MiL has her bed at last. It's a very nifty one too, fully automatic with a mattress that self inflates with a back that can be lifted and the whole bed tilted to help her keep her legs up. Apparently, the only issue is it's taking her effort to actually get into it, as she sort of has to go sideways and shuffle across, as opposed to the recliner where she could just sit.

My MiL and FiL have also had notice they'll be getting their COVID vaccines soon, which is fine for my FiL as he can get to the doctors to get it, but I'm not sure what will happen with my MiL. But, at least it's in the works which is a big relief.

James had to have a back tooth taken out on Saturday. He was very lucky to get an emergency appointment as he'd completely cracked the tooth and was in a lot of pain. I'm actually surprised he hasn't done that before as he's used his teeth to open bottles and cans of pop etc as long as I've known him. He was feeling a bit sorry for himself for an hour or so after but was fine after that.

glad the bed is there, and has helpful features! I know it's not as easy to get into as a recliner, but if part of the problem is that the bed is too high (I know some hospital-type beds are, due to the mechanisms), would having a little platform/step help get her to a height that might make getting in/out easier? my parents had a Victorian bed that was like hip-high, and dad made a square platform/step to help. it was a good-sized square, covered in carpet and could be slid under the bed out of the way when not needed. if that's not the issue, possibly what they call a trapeze? that's the hanging thing over the bed that one grasps to help maneuver. they make free-standing ones so alterations to the room aren't necessary.

From what my MiL has told me, I think the step would be a big help. It is the height that's the issue as she has no strength at all to lift her legs far.

A step like that would be perfect, just to give that extra boost, and actually, if that isn't enough the trapeze could be used too. I'm sure adult social services could arrange one for her if she asked.

It's these little things that will help her keep her independence because the bed is amazing. Having to have my FiL help left her legs up onto it not so much, especially when he's not the steadiest on his feet either.

I'm going to pass on both suggestions to my SiL's partner who is classed as my MiLs carer so can go in the house. Thank you!

I hope one or both of these pan out, and helps her! dad put a handle on one side of the platform, for ease in pulling it into position (like from under the bed when it was tucked away). of course, that might not be necessary if it'll be a mostly permanent installation, but it could be useful in moving it about.

Yeah, the rain has hit here today so I was glad to get that dry sunny day. I suspect we won't be seeing the sun again for a while.

It was excellent news, and I agree, hopefully, it's a case of practice makes perfect.

Yay for comments! And for the beach - your walk sounds awesome. Also I'm very glad the bed finally arrived, after all the to-do about it. I hope the vaccine logistics can be worked out. My aunt is scheduled to get hers on Wednesday and I'm very excited for that!

I really enjoyed the walk at the beach. The change in scenery was lovely.

Well, amazingly both my FiL and MiL had their vaccinations yesterday. My FiL went to the clinic to get his, and when they found out my MiL is housebound, someone went down with a spare vaccine, which was amazing service.

That's great news about your aunt. Every time I hear of someone getting the vaccine I smile, another tiny step toward the end of these horrible times.

The photo is of the main pedestrian area of my town. It just shows how quiet it gets during lockdown.

It feels like the vaccination rollout is happening so slowly, and every day I get frustrated, but then I hear about someone I know, or sort of know, getting or about to get theirs and -- it's good. It's progress. I'm happy your in-laws are nearly there.

I'm trying to figure out the time of day when that photo was taken, but I just can't decide! The way the light hits the street is beautiful!

Since I posted this my in-laws have had their vaccination, so they're there now!

But, I know exactly what you mean about feeling happy when you hear of people getting the vaccinations. Each one is only one tiny step in the countless millions that need to be given. But it is a step, and those steps are getting faster all the time.

It was taken early morning, just after nine if I remember rightly. It was the light that made me take the photo because it's nowhere special, just the end of the shopping street in my town, but it had been raining and the sun was peeping through the clouds and I just had to stop and try and capture that.

The bed sounds excellent - height issues notwithstanding, hopefully she can get a step or something to help with that as she can't be the only one with that issue - I hope she gets some decent rest and that helps her more generally. Good news about the vaccines, too, I know they've been looking at distribution to the housebound as well, so hopefully that will go easily.

Oh poor James - I hope he's continued to heal well.

The bed is doing wonders already, to the extent the nurses have moved to dressing her legs every other day now. Though, she's still not able to get in and out easily. But she's asked about steps etc, so that's good.

You may have seen my MiL has also had her vaccine now. I have to say, I'm impressed with how our area have handled the vaccines, apparently, they're ahead of where they expected to be at this point.

James is fine now. Thankfully it was the very back tooth, and they were great with him.

I envy you getting a sunny walk on the beach. It's been either drizzling or downright pouring with rain here for the last couple of days. So depressing.

I see from comments that both your FiL and your MiL got their Covid shots already. My mum won't get hers until next month sometime.

Ouch! Poor James! Though it does sound a bit as if he only has himself to blame. Toothache really is the worst though so I still pity him.

I enjoyed my sunny walk, and in fact, it's been sunny and really frosty here again today, which is a nice combination.

I hope your mum gets her shot soon. I know it was a worry off my mind when James and his parents got theirs.

He totally had himself to blame, but thankfully the tooth was easily dealt with and cheaply dealt with which is always a bonus.

The light was beautiful, it's why I took the pic, so had one ready to use when the challenge went up.

The middle of town tends to be empty most of the time. People have been good staying in, of course, it helps that only a couple of shops are open in the area.
