Feb. 24th, 2021 10:32 amThe shops were much quieter on Monday, so that was good. We got stocked up on cat litter and cat food as well as the groceries we needed. And also picked up the months worth of antibiotics James needs to take, though his doctor has still referred him off to the pain management clinic. Which is good in one way, but we're both very wary of them messing with his meds too much.
While we were out Pauline phoned and asked if we wanted one of the butterfly bushes we'd planted in dad's memory. She lives in a council bungalow and everyone on that estate has been told any flowerbeds that have been dug into the grass outside of the bungalows need to be grassed over. Dad had dug a thin flowerbed down the side of the path, and after he died we planted two butterfly bushes in his memory, one from me and Chris, the other from the grandkids.
Obviously I said yes to taking the bush, but that meant I had to go over and dig the thing up, which I thought would be easy, because how hard would it be to dig up one smallish butterfly bush? The answer was, much harder than I expected. It took me ages to get the thing out, the roots were really thick and I pretty much ended up having to hack at the biggest roots with the spade. Hopefully it'll survive, because it's a bit early to transplant. But saying that, I've seen butterfly bushes growing out of the side of houses before so they must be hardy.
I did plant it in our garden yesterday afternoon as I didn't want it out of the soil too long, so must have looked a right clip digging as the wind was blowing a hoolie and the rain was coming down. But, it's planted now and hopefully will grow.
I finished watching season two of Roswell New Mexico yesterday, so now I've moved on to catching up on Star Trek Discovery and then Supernatural. All the Chicago shows have started back, and now I just need my crack fix of 911 and 911 Lonestar to be scheduled already. If they don't hurry up I may have to add them to my download list.
Today my plan is to finally make nominations at the h/c exchange. I'll be nominating Musketeers, but while I've done it before the whole process always makes me nervous. So, I think a day set aside for that might be just about enough time.
Oh, and while I was catching up on my Musketeer reading I discovered there's apparently a thing called Febwhump now. I'm quite happy staying in my tiny corner of DW/LJ fandom, but it seems I do miss a lot doing so.

Date: 2021-02-25 01:56 am (UTC)And that's a pity that Pauline's estate is so strict. But I hope the bush will flourish in your garden and you will get to enjoy it, after all your efforts in getting it there!

Date: 2021-02-25 12:03 pm (UTC)I don't get why they've suddenly said all the flower beds have to be grassed over. I mean, practically they've said it's so the grass cutters can get in easily, but that hasn't been an issue before.

Date: 2021-02-26 08:14 pm (UTC)How silly that they're not allowed to keep their flower borders! I hope the butterfly bush will thrive in your garden, in any case!

Date: 2021-03-01 04:50 pm (UTC)I really don't know why they've said the flower borders have to go now. It makes no sense as they've been there for ages.
