I enjoyed Eurovision last night. There were some excellent songs and performances and I can't be sorry the UK got no points as really, it was very much a blah song while James the singer didn't have the best stage presence while the staging itself was lacklustre with two hanging trumpets and nothing else. I did like his reaction to the score though, you really can't take yourself too seriously in Eurovision.

I thought Italy, and Maneskin, were worthy winners and enjoyed their performance, and if you like hot rocker guys kissing, shadowhive has posted some grabs from the end performance here. The drummer's reaction at the result was adorable and hopefully you can see their performance here.

There didn't seem to be as much out and out wackiness as usual, though I guess that was partly due to Covid restrictions, but Germany's performance with the giant hand backing dancer that seemed to be a cross between wanting to flip people off and a giant penis made me laugh. The song itself had good intentions I guess, and the singer and backing singers were nicely chirpy but the hand...

This is why I love Eurovision I Don't Feel Hate.

It was such a fun show and, like I said, such a strong line up. Huge, HUGE kudos for everyone involved putting the show on and making it feel like a regular one.

I feel sorry for him, because it was an ok song but his performance wasn’t the best, still it was nice everyone cheered for him. (I was so surprised that Spain did so badly and got nothing from the people. Us and Germany deserved 0, he didn’t)

Hee that hand, but yeah it was quite as wacky as normal but it was super fun as awhole and it’s made me eager to watch the film on Netflix and some of the stuff on iPlayer (and ive added three of the acts to Spotify)

I agree, so much kudos for what they pulled off. Which is why I think it's a shame the show has been overshadowed a little by the drugs thing. They should be celebrating pulling off an excellent song in COVID times, not talk about some perceived scandal.

I actually heard the UK song on the radio this morning and it was so much better recorded. But yeah, I agree with Spain too. Sometimes I don't get the voting at all.

I didn't actually see any the show firsthand, but I saw so much posted on tumblr that I feel like I absorbed it by osmosis. Yay for queer kisses and unrestrained rocking out!

Eurovision does seem to seep into the collective fannish brain via osmosis.

While I don't go onto twitter now, when I did it used to get flooded with Eurovision tweets, I'm sure most people were sitting thinking, wtf?! *g*

It must be at least forty years since I watched Eurovison last and none of my relatives watch it either so I'm always a little suprised by how popular it actually is. It's such a non-event to me. Still, it's nice to hear it's still the same silly and spectacular thing it's always been :-)

It's really big here still, which is weird considering the UK has done terribly for many many years now.

I love that it is silly and that while some acts obviously take it very seriously, many others are just there to have fun in the wackiest way possible.
