June Something day 4
Jun. 4th, 2021 04:25 pmDay 4: What are the origins of your penname/username?
This seems to get asked in pretty much every challenge going so many of you will know already, but here goes.
It's all because of my brother. He calls me Turps, which comes from Terri shortened to Ter made longer to Turps. I don't know what goes on in his mind for that to happen but he's called me that forever, and in fact, his kids call me Auntie Turps. So, when I first got my LJ back in the dinosaur days I tried to get Turps, only to find out someone else had nabbed it, and then never posted under that name -- not that I hold a grudge. So, I added a random number of 33.
I'm pretty much Turps/Turps33 everywhere: and that's my not so exciting explanation.
Last year we had tickets for Phantom of the Opera at the theatre, of course, that got cancelled and hasn't been rescheduled, so today we used our credit at the theatre to book tickets for Rocky Horror in September. Looking at the schedule I also really want to see Footloose and Bring It On, which are both on in June 2022, because I'm a sucker for a cheesy musical.
I was also sent another presentation pack of stamps today, this one classics of science fiction. Something has gone wrong as you're only supposed to get a pack at the beginning of your six months and one at the end, so it looks like the computer blipped as I had a duplicate goodbye letter, too. This means, including my usual monthly stamp pack, I've had 36 first-class and 12 large letter stamps sent within the last two weeks.
This makes up for the irritation of yesterday when my recycling bin wasn't emptied. I didn't have the sticker of shame saying it contained stuff that couldn't be recycled, so it looks like the recycling men forgot to walk down to get it again. It's happened before due to our block of houses not being near a road so after a call they said they'd come out either today or Tuesday as they don't work Sat-Mon.
Masked Dancer tonight. I wasn't into it as much as The Masked Singer at first but now I'm invested and if Car Wash doesn't win I'll be most displeased.
Now I must go water the plants, I've been out most of today and the poor things will be gasping.

Date: 2021-07-02 09:18 am (UTC)That does sound very similar. It's funny because I get the shortening of names to make them easier to say, but then adding on seems counterproductive. Yet seems to lead to some personal and lovely nicknames.
I'm looking forward to Rocky Horror, and I did keep the stamps. They've never asked for them back so I consider them an unexpected bonus.

Date: 2021-06-05 05:50 pm (UTC)How cool that they're putting on Rocky Horror! I hope it will be a really fun show.
That's a lot of stamps! I would love to see how the classic sf stams look. You don't happen to have a link handy?
How very lax of them! They should really tighten up their routines!

I'm looking forward to Rocky Horror. Unlike last time, when we were in the stalls, we're in the dress circle for this show. So, I hope the atmosphere is just as good.

Date: 2021-06-23 05:28 pm (UTC)He actually had an easy costume, pretty much an outfit with lots of strips of fabric coming off it.
