June Something day 6,7,8.
Jun. 8th, 2021 04:11 pmMilo was at the vets today and ended up as a bit of a star

He's fine though has gunk in his ears, not infected thankfully, but the vet has ordered some new steroid ear drops that will hopefully mean we can stop the struggle to get tablets into him. He also had his nails clipped and we were told he's a bit too chunky, which is typical as last year they were worried he'd dropped too much weight. But I guess 7kg plus is big for a cat.
It's still drop and go atm, but the receptionist sent me a photo, the one used in the FB post actually, saying he was happy lolling about and having his belly rubbed. So while I do hate drop and go still, I knew he was in good hands.
After that Milo had to come with us for a drive to the doctors so I could my B12. I was let in, sat down and was pretty much out again within five minutes which was great.
Dropped Milo off at home and went for a walk in the park which was really nice as it's a gorgeous day. Warm and sunny but not too hot. Now we're home and I'm about to go read in the garden for a bit while James tries to have a nap as he's helping out at scouts tonight and doesn't want to fall asleep in a corner.
I have to admit, I was a bit wary when they asked if he could help with scouting again. It's been a long road to get James to the point where his physical and mental health is much better and he hasn't missed a day of work for over six months. So, adding on scouting duties again seemed a little risky. Not so much now, but when he'd be coming home from work after a ten hour shift to go straight to the scout hut. But, they're stressed he's there as backup only, no planning etc, just someone there as a fully qualified leader to make up the adult numbers, which won't be every week. So, I guess as compromises go it's a good one and we'll just see how it goes.
Catching up on the June Something.
Day 6: What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
Well, along with
sperrwink I wonder why the Magic Mike XXL fandom didn't explode. But mostly I wish that The Musketeers fandom was bigger. Some of the fic that comes out now is great, but a lot isn't to my taste. Of course, I've been sitting on my own fic for nearly two years now so I've no right to complain about a lack of new stuff.
Day 7: What's the longest time you've been in a fandom. Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way.
Probably popslash. I never leave a fandom behind completely, so could technically say Voyager, and actually, I just tabbed a Poltergeist the Legacy fic that was posted recently, and that was the first fandom I ever read fic for, but before I saw that posted I hadn't read in it for years so I doubt it really counts. I do still read popslash occasionally, and am not opposed to writing it. Looking at my tags, I wrote Boxes, which was my first 'real' popslash story back in March 2004. So yeah, a long time ago and I was in the fandom well before that.
Day 8: Crack!fic - We all know it. What's your opinion of it, and if you want, show us an example.
Love it! It amuses me that my popslash and bandom stories were so different. Popslash seemed to be all about the crack and bandom the h/c. Not that that was the case all the time, I mean, Boxes wasn't crack at all and was about living on the streets and I wrote other more serious stories, and I often indulged in bandom crack.
As for examples, oh man, when I was looking for the date I posted Boxes I checked out some of the tagged fic and for popslash, there's A fishy Take which involved sexy talking dolphins and I actually found the complete version of the Lava Lamp story in pictures.
There's actually a lot to choose from in bandom too when I think about it, but I still love Cooked and Slightly Cracked which is Gerard/Mikey and theirbaby egglets and What I'm Looking For which is Way bro shapeshifting sheep.
In conclusion, crack is A-Okay with me.

Date: 2021-06-08 07:16 pm (UTC)I hope the scouting goes ok and he doesn’t have to do too much
Ohh I think I saw the first Magic Mike but I don’t think I’ve seen the second yet
Ohhh I loved that one with the ways and their eaglets🖤

Date: 2021-06-09 09:56 am (UTC)Yeah, me too. The test will be when he's back at work.
The second Magic Mike is so much better. I like it a lot and will happily watch it when I catch it on TV.
The egglets, I love that people got so invested in them ♥

Date: 2021-06-08 10:10 pm (UTC)Also, it seems only fair that he accompany you to your appointment as you went with him to his.
I hope the scouting duties don't get too draining for James.
Popslash was definitely a fandom where crack flourished! And gloriously so.

Date: 2021-06-09 09:53 am (UTC)It is good he's at ease. It's why I like he goes to an all cat vets, it means they're very experienced handling cats, and there are no smells of other animals to worry him.
Ha, I like that way of thinking, he totally needed to come to the doctors with me.
I'm still not sure about the scouting stuff. Yesterday wasn't really a good example due to being off atm, it's going straight from work which will be the issue. Guess it will have to remain a wait and see.
Popslash really did embrace the crack. It's the fandom that's made me laugh the most, that's for sure.

Date: 2021-06-10 06:46 pm (UTC)I understand why you worry for James taking on too much with the scouting but hopefully it will all work out. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Popslash had so much fun crack! And you certainly did your best to make sure bandom had its fair share too :-)

Date: 2021-07-01 12:11 pm (UTC)Well, so far scouting has worked out. Mostly because they keep having to cancel sessions when the kids have to self isolate. But, he's been a couple of times and it worked then, so hopefully, cutting down to every other week will help.
Popslash was the best :D

Date: 2021-06-10 09:21 pm (UTC)We are never letting it go that MMXXL never took off. Ahaha. *bitter*
I feel you about James' attendance and I hope it continues and the scouts don't interfere with that. I was doing really well through May and June until MOm got sick.

Date: 2021-07-01 12:14 pm (UTC)I will forever be bitter MMXXL didn't take off. So much possibility and nothing!
Yeah, it's so hard to get that balance when you're juggling work, health and personal stuff. Your mom getting sick really was a spanner in the works for you :(

Date: 2021-06-21 04:11 am (UTC)I'm sorry, I can't accept that Boxes was your first 'official' popslash fic! It does NOT read like a first attempt -- there's absolutely nothing first-y about it at all!

Date: 2021-06-21 08:15 am (UTC)Oh man, Boxes was so much fun. I just wrote and didn't even worry about such things as beta reading first. I just kept churning out those parts and enjoying every moment. I wouldn't do that now, but at the time had a blast.

Date: 2021-07-04 06:23 pm (UTC)I also never really leave a fandom... They just get added to the collection :D

Date: 2021-07-05 03:15 pm (UTC)Good luck taking yours when they go.
Adding fandoms is the way to go. You never know when the urge to revisit will pop up.
