Jan. 3rd, 2023 12:33 pmMy MiL went home last night. It was a nice if tiring in a hosting way visit. It's sad how much her mobility has decreased even since the last time she stayed. Back then she'd have a walk into the kitchen, this time she's literally gone between the toilet and the couch and nothing else for all the time she's been here.
She's not a bad guest at all, but as always it comes back to, we have a small house, just the kitchen and living room downstairs so having someone sleep on the recliner meant I spent most mornings sitting in the dark, trying to quiet type, often until around 10am. We did offer to take her out for a drive on New Years' day, but I think she's still a bit wary of going out, even if she did have her portable oxygen cylinder, for just those kinds of trips.
But, she seemed to enjoy her visit so that's good. Today I've been taking the decorations down and am at the point where they're all down and boxed, I just need to carry them all up the stairs. So, I'm taking a quick online break before doing that.
Two things while doing that. I found the clothes rail for my wardrobe in the Christmas tree box. Which, of course, it was. I mean, why didn't I realise that's exactly where it would be? It does mean I can finally get all my clothes hung up and say goodbye to my floordrobe.
Second. Some of you may remember that I was let go from my mail survey thing last year as the postman realised I was an agent. Well, the company that runs the mail survey lost the right to run it last year and another company is taking over in a month or so. I re-registered ages ago but didn't know if I'd be allowed back due to having the same address. But, I passed the entrance test and then just forgot about it. Except, today I was delivered two Christmas presentation stamp packs and a load of other stamps. So it looks like I am back, just not an active agent delivering and receiving post yet.
We watched a lot of tv in the last week. I was excited to watch the Motherland Christmas Special, I don't know if anyone else actually watches, but
I didn't expect it to focus on the death of Julia's mam. I didn't dislike the episode, and it showed that immediate slam of disbelief and grief well, but it wasn't what I expected when I started to watch. It was the first time my MiL had seen the show and it's a shame she started on that episode, as while Motherland can be biting, this was even more so.

Date: 2023-01-04 07:45 am (UTC)That's it exactly. I really like my MiL but it was a lot making, serving, and cleaning up three meals a day plus drinks. Add in lack of space and things like the tv literally not being turned off for nearly a week and I was tired by the end.

I'll be complaining about the mail survey when I've stuff to post again I'm sure. But I'm so pleased about the rail. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box and there it was.

Date: 2023-01-16 04:39 pm (UTC)It is sad, she's gone downhill a lot, even in a few months. I was talking to her a few days ago and she was saying how she felt down and that has to be tied to the fact she hasn't been out beyond driving here, and then back to my SiL's in months. But at the same time, she won't go out, even for a drive because of the effort involved to get in the car, so it's a vicious circle. Though she does have a hospital appointment tomorrow which she's getting to via patient transport, so I hope this first journey using her oxygen will show it is possible to do with some planning.
I was so pleased to find the missing clothes rail. But I'd still love to know how it got in the Christmas Tree box. That was so random.

Oooft, I hadn't even thought - if I'd known that you watched Motherland I might have given you a wee heads up, it was very well done I thought, but kind of gut punchy and not exactly lighthearted.

Date: 2023-01-16 04:36 pm (UTC)Every word you say there is true. I do love and like her, but it was hard creeping around in the dark in the mornings, especially the days when I have to be up early to help James get dressed and off to work.

I was so surprised. I mean, it's still the same postman doing the route. So goodness knows what they were thinking. I still haven't been put on active sending duty yet, but it's probably better in the spring and summer anyway.

I appreciate the thought ♥ I only found the show recently and binge-watched all the seasons in the last month or so and don't think I talked about them on here so no one would have known. The episode was very well done, and they captured those early moments of disbelief perfectly, especially when Julia and her mam were alone. I can't say that I enjoyed it, and it was certainly not what I expected when I pressed play, but I can't deny that everyone involved did an excellent job.
But now I want more eps that are a bit lighter. More nits or horror of pool parties than death.

Date: 2023-01-08 03:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, you're supposed to do six months on, six months off but sometimes can get invited back earlier if they don't have enough people to cover your area.
