Aug. 8th, 2024 08:59 amJames had his spinal injections yesterday, he also said he felt drunk when we were coming home and that a pigeon was talking to him. He only gets the injections done with local anaesthetic, so man, I'd love to know what they put in there. Though, I suspect a lot of the giddiness was relief that it was finally done and over. Also, you don't want to know how long it just took me to spell anaesthetic correctly, at least five attempts myself, then to Google I went.
Surprisingly for that hospital, there was a wait, as the consultant had turned up late. But once he did he zoomed through the waiting list of people. So, within an hour of him arriving, we were on the way home.
The appointment at the limb centre on Tuesday also went well, so as of now, neither of us have any upcoming medical appointments. Well, I have my regular lymphoedema appointment, but that's not until the first week in January, so I'm not counting it yet.
So many places shut down yesterday due to the threat of more riots. Shops, restaurants, the theatre in Sunderland cancelled both showings of Wizard of Oz. The hospitals tried to rush the outpatient clinics so staff could get home, even the Lidl across from my house closed early. So many places having to protect themselves due to a threat of violent protests. So I was glad to see things remained calm, and that in most places, the few far right protesters were far outnumbered by the counterprotesters who turned up in their thousands to protect their local areas by forming human shields around buildings that had apparently been targetted for attack.
This is a photo I enjoyed seeing last night, the police creating a ring around anti-immigration protesters. Bet those people weren't so brave throwing bottles, planks, attacking the police etc when faced with such overwhelming opposition.

Date: 2024-08-08 12:39 pm (UTC)I've seen some horrible photos about the rioters. Burning buildings with people in them. It's terrible. Seeing the anti-racism photos and signs made me smile a bit.

Date: 2024-08-08 02:54 pm (UTC)The riots have been horrible to see. I still can't forget seeing the rioters trying to shove a burning bin into a hotel, full well knowing people were inside. They must have been terrified.
It's been very satisfying to hear about the arrests and people being charged for taking part. Even better to see the hateful cowards trying to hide their faces when they've been filmed going to court to be sentenced.

The riots have sounded terrible! It's a great relief to hear the counterprotesters have started to appear in such large numbers. That photo is awesome! Let's show those racist fuckers what a tiny minority they are!!

Date: 2024-08-11 02:51 pm (UTC)I totally agree. I had great satisfaction in seeing an infamous local woman be locked up, someone who thought it was okay to throw bins and glass bottles at the police, and was clearly caught doing so in photos.
I really do hope everyone who protested violently get identified and locked up, and they also take action against those who spew hate online. I keep hoping Katie Hopkins gets arrested at some point, but she seems to always get away with it.
Such a relief they're all done!

Date: 2024-08-11 02:52 pm (UTC)The counterprotesters were great, I love that so many turned up prepared to protect places apparently on a target list.
Congrats to James on making it through this last appointment, and on his new ornithological friend!
I'll have to ask if he's ever heard his new friend again *g*
