Okay, I give in. I've been trying to avoid this meme but I keep seeing it and I'm a pushover, but you all knew that right? Also, my flist is pretty small so how many requests could I get?
I'll also post this when I know
castalie is at work as I know she'll laugh at me ;)

Date: 2004-01-10 04:46 pm (UTC)Now your ficlet, it's pretty sad and tame. I hope that's okay.
Part 1
Hands pushed deep in her coat pocket, Emma watched the boats far out at sea. If she concentrated she imagined she could see the glint of sun against glass on one boat, evidence of the men who watched her always. It had bothered her at first, having a succession of minders. Their thoughts were always cool and controlled, evidence of the conditioning that had created the ultimate spy, and after a few weeks Emma had started to tightly leash her powers, not wanting to accidentally brush against those dull ordered emotions more than she had to.
It was one of the things Emma missed the most, being around people with emotions that swirled round her in a riot of feelings and thoughts. She missed walking past Brennan and feeling the aura of confidence that surrounded him, or Jesse who projected love and friendship, but mostly she missed Shalimar, and the way the air changed when she walked into a room. Shalimar has always made things seem more alive. Images sharpened when she walked past; at least they did for Emma, who missed her friend with a longing so deep it scared her.
Even Adam hadn’t been able to dampen that longing after a few months. It didn’t matter how many talks they had or how many exhausting missions they undertook, Emma still felt the loss of her former life like a knife to the gut, a knife that plunged into her again and again every time she allowed herself to think more than a few minutes.
Emma had become pale and withdrawn, haunting the corridors of the complex at all hours of the day and night. Adam worried for her; Emma could sense his concern, mixed up with guilt and fear that he’d caused this situation. But she couldn’t tell him not to worry, how could she when it took every bit of strength she had not to run screaming into the night?
In the end it was Adam who pushed until she was allowed to contact at least one of her old friends. When told, Emma had sunk to her bed, staring at Adam in disbelief. It should have been a hard decision, they were all her friends, but it hadn’t been. She wanted to see Shalimar. No, she needed to see Shalimar. Adam hadn’t looked surprised, just patted Emma on her shoulder and looked at her with eyes that radiated pain.
It hadn’t taken that long to arrange. The complex could work miracles at times, and now Emma sat waiting at a deserted beach, miles from the nearest people, at least those people that didn’t have to watch her at all times. Emma could tell when Shalimar approached; the air seemed to change in a way that screamed Shalimar. Emma drank it in, breathing deep and long, inhaling what she’d craved for so long. She didn’t look back, she couldn’t look back, just stood and felt until Shalimar moved in front of her, standing a few feet away.
They didn’t touch, though Emma ached to hold Shalimar in her arms, to hug and be held like they used to. But that was a life-time ago, and Shalimar just stared at her, caution, happiness and distrust all bound in a bundle of emotion that blasted through Emma’s mind.
“You died.” The words seemed to be wrenched from Shalimar’s throat and her eyes shimmered with the memory of a thousand tears.

Date: 2004-01-10 04:47 pm (UTC)“I came back.” In a way she had, Emma had been reborn to a world of secrecy and lies, but to Mutant X, to Shalimar she’d been dead and would continue to be so.
“Not to us you didn’t.” Shalimar turned feral for an instant and Emma could sense the men on the boat tense. “You were dead, Emma. Still are to Jesse and Brennan. They’re at Sanctuary and they’re grieving for something that never happened. How could you?”
“I’m sorry. I had to go, we had to go.” Emma could tell the moment her words sank in, and a wave of anger exploded from the feral. “Adam’s with you? He abandoned us, the team he built and just left. How could he? Brennan said something was rotten and I didn’t want to believe him, but he was right all along.”
Emma flinched as the words hit home, they were true, at least to an extent, but Emma couldn’t explain and looking at Shalimar she knew she might as well have stayed dead. At least that way Shalimar would have mourned not hated. “I’m sorry, Adam is too, he would have come but he’s busy…”
“Busy!” Shalimar almost screamed the word. “Too busy for Mutant X, for his family?”
Stepping forward, Emma tried to reach for Shalimar then jerked her hand back as the feral hissed. “I missed you all so much. Missed you.”
“It looks like it.” Some of the anger drained from Shalimar and she slumped a little, staring at Emma. “We cried for you, Emma. Jesse cried, I cried, god even Brennan had red eyes one night. We missed you so much and now you think you can just come here and start again? It doesn’t work like that. We’ve moved on. Lexa’s not you or Adam but she’s Mutant X now.”
“I love you.”
“I know you do.” Shalimar reached for Emma at last, holding her hand. “I loved you too. I still do, but I can’t be near you just now. You have to understand.”
At those words Shalimar leaned forward, brushing her lips across Emma’s. “Give me time, Emma.”
With that Shalimar turned and ran away without a backward glance, and Emma started to walk slowly to the harbour. She’d made her choices the night of the collapse, now she had to live with them.

Date: 2004-01-10 05:18 pm (UTC)I didn't intend to write angst but it just wouldn't go away. I think I have issues about S3 *g*
Post it? Man, it's been ages since I wrote MX never mind posted anything. I'm thrilled you think it's good enough to do so.
You know I might post it, give the group a shock and show them I'm still alive ;)
Cool title, I'll definitely use it, and credit you of course.
Oh and the more bit? All I can say is maybe because the only was I can think of resolving things is a pretty big story. I could just post bits in my LJ for now I suppose, that way there's no pressure.

Date: 2004-01-10 05:41 pm (UTC)Like isn't the word, hon! You said it was tame, but, god, I felt the tension between them. I can see a majorly hot love scene in the works if you continue...

You and me both - there's a raging debate here with a roomie as to whether Emma's actually dead. I doubt she is, somehow - that damn ring should not have fallen off...

I repeat - it's wonderful; I can even say it was a sorta birthday fic. *grin*

Sounds like a plan; you know I'll pester you until you do, right? Though I suppose I'll be nice and wait til it's finished if you're going to continue. But can I at least post it to *my* LJ to show off?
Cool title, I'll definitely use it, and credit you of course.
*grin* I'm good with titles that way. Sometimes a fic will evolve just cause a cool title popped into my head. *lol* And thanks for the credit!

OOOOHHHHH - *please* *please* continue!!! I haven't seen much Emma/Shal fic this good lately, and it turning into something nice and lengthy would just be heaven... I'll even finish the Madness series for you if you do!

Date: 2004-01-10 05:55 pm (UTC)Well that would be a first for me *g* But I'd be totally cool if it went in that direction.
You and me both - there's a raging debate here with a roomie as to whether Emma's actually dead. I doubt she is, somehow - that damn ring should not have fallen off...
I'm totally with you on that. That damn ring was keyed to her DNA, there was something fishy the way it just slipped from her hand. Plus, I can see TPTB bringing Emma back as some kind of 'shock episode'. I really hope they do because even though I don't hate Lexa I can't say I'm warming to her either.
But can I at least post it to *my* LJ to show off?
Of course you can! It was done for you, I'm thrilled that you want to show it off :)
OOOOHHHHH - *please* *please* continue!!! I haven't seen much Emma/Shal fic this good lately,
*Blush* Thanks again. I've been having trouble writing MX lately, hopefully this is the kick start that I need.
It's funny, I haven't wrote anything for a while then today I've done 4 ficlets that together would make a full story. I've missed writing a lot.
LOL, I'd love to see more Madness series, that's one hell of a bribe!

Date: 2004-01-10 06:15 pm (UTC)That ring dropping has been the biggest sticking point - I've been told that explosions (and just being dead) do funny things to the body, but those rings have never fallen off before. They're made not to, since they're worn out in the field. Also, the closeup on the ring at the end of Moonless Night seems very foreshadowy.
The really frustrating thing is that Tribune said not one word about Lauren Lee Smith's departure, so we have *no* idea what happened or if there's a chance she could return. I agree that I could see them pulling something like that for shock effect. *winces* Poor Shal... And - OMG - did you *see* the scene with Shal talking to Brennan about her picnic with Emma just after Emma came to Sanctuary? How Shal said Emma let her feel how happy she was that day? *all Meg's slash alarms go off simultaneously*
You know, I like Lexa, especially after seeing *all* the Season Three eps and seeing her more human side through the little throw-away bits you have to piece together - though I can't say I like the whole Jesse/Lexa thing they're pushing... EEK... I like it less than the whole Emma/Jesse and Brennan/Shal thing we had to start with, and I *never* liked that...
I'll probably go run and post the story to my journal in a sec - already got it saved in html on my computer. *lol*
Hopefully, this will end your dry spell - I certainly hope so! And don't you feel accomplished after doing all that writing today? *grin*
I'll make you a deal - you work on Resurrection, and I'll *finally* finish the Madness series. After I finish the Emma/Shal holiday fic I have languishing in my notebook, that is... (Not to fear - I plan to have that done and posted by Valentine's Day at absolute latest, so it won't be a long wait...)

CuspOfQueens [6:46 PM]: "You died."

PhoenyxPhiyre [6:47 PM]: I know...
PhoenyxPhiyre [6:49 PM]: great fic, huh?
CuspOfQueens [6:49 PM]: Uh, YEAH
PhoenyxPhiyre [6:49 PM]: she's never written Emma/Shal before
PhoenyxPhiyre [6:50 PM]: just Brennan/Jesse
CuspOfQueens [6:50 PM]: it was nice.
PhoenyxPhiyre [6:50 PM]: I'm trying to get her to continue it
CuspOfQueens [6:52 PM]: Yes. Continuation is good.
CuspOfQueens [6:53 PM]: I have no problems smacking people I've never met.
And I don't. So that was my squee, because I liked it....as a first chapter!!
But then I saw that 1) you write NSYNC slash, which is even better, and then 2) that you write TrickC, which is the BESTEST EVER, so there will be no smackage. Only homage. And 'you rock'age.
And I'm friending you, so that I can have easy access to your fics.
Which, have I mentioned, kick ass?
*grin*

Date: 2004-01-11 04:11 am (UTC)I think Meg's got me convinced to continue but I can't promise when. It'll be going up in my LJ in bits I suspect.
Thanks for reading!
