As part of keeping the MX archive current I visit FanFicNet regularly. Today I saw a story that stunned me -- in a bad way.

You have to search through the dross there, as it's true what they say, FFN attracts the worst writers. For example, there's 600 MX stories, I'd say about 500 of those are Mary Sues with new mutants called Jewel etc that fall in love with one of the guys...vomit. You can find great stories but it's rare.

Today I saw one that just puzzled me. In the intro the author had put 'warning -- story sucks' so why put the bloody thing out in public then? I don't deny anyone the choice to write, but putting it out into public when you know it sucks, what the hell's up with that? Unless the writer wants to be reassured that they don't suck, and that's just as bad.

The story itself wasn't bad, I've read worse, at least this writer knew what paragraphs are, unlike some writers there. However, any points she gained were lost in the authors notes when she admitted she'd never seen the show, and you could tell. She even mixed up the hair colour of one of the main characters, giving Emma blonde hair when she's either had dark or red hair depending on the season.

Then again goes on and says this: Note: This is my most awful work, so please forgive! I was writing this at 3am:) and I say again WTF! Why archive it then?

if you talk to that RL person over the phone, does that count? I mean, suppose you already spent hours answering mails and LJ comments from that person... does that count or does that make me too much into CL? lol

Just a theoretical question, of course lol

*geeky like* Theoretical question, right, but still an interesting question. Hmm... what does your notebook have to say about that?

I'm at work right now, and I stupidly left my notebook at home (duh! right when I need it!). But you know, me and theoretical questions... I always turn them to my advantage lol

to people who don't know me: I'm just kidding, I always follow the rules of good behavior and expected social things.

to people who know me: try not to choke on the above comment lol

okay, okay, *you* are always nice - but keep in mind that I am a (cut) villain (cut) therefore I must be mean and keep you waiting, otherwise I'll just be a geek in a metal suit lol

How could I resist? That notebook holds the secrets of the world I'm sure. Page 1 is probably the meaning of life or something.

Well, I suppose it depends on whether you walk away from the computer to use the phone.

Anyway this doesn't apply to you as you go out in your kinky metal suit being an identity confused villain. You have to leave the computer for that surely ;)

lol

I'm beginning to love this kinky metal suit! (ps: yes, I have to take it off when I work though - students wouldn't listen to grammar explanations otherwise lol)
