May. 3rd, 2007 09:29 amI have a pet peeve, and normally I just bitch in mail, but gah.
When someone posts a picture of Lance, and someone comments on his outfit or the way he's standing, by saying 'And he said he was straight!' Just no! Every single member of Nsync wore outfits as outlandish as Lance did. They had stylists, that's what stylists do, put their clients into clothes designed to be noticed. It wasn't Lance's inner gay seeping through his veneer of straightness. Not unless that was happening to the other four too, and as much as I love my imagined thoughts of group sex orgies between them all, that wasn't happening.
Also. Liking him better now because he's gay? Why?! I don't mean respecting him because he came out. I mean, actually thinking he's better because he's gay. Someone explain that to me, because I don't get it.
Okay, I'm done now, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but it drives me nuts.

Date: 2007-05-03 10:57 am (UTC)I guess, I just think the whole idea of being able to judge sexuality by clothes makes me boggle. I mean, even if Lance was pictured wearing a t-shirt saying Real men take it up the ass I'd be looking out for Joey wearing one too. It could be argued that stereotypes hold a grain of truth somewhere, but Lance as a stereotypical flaming gay guy. I don't see it. And especially don't see it with official pictures which are a whole different ballgame.
It's like they think he's suddenly different just because he's come out! He's exactly the same person he was before! Grrrrr!!!
Exactly! When he first came out I ran across a post of where someone said that they liked Lance so much more now. Because he's gay and being gay makes things so much better. He hadn't changed as a person, how could she like him better? I just don't get it.

Date: 2007-05-03 11:39 am (UTC)I guess, I don't see sexuality as something that needs celebrating. It should be just there and unremarkable, be that person gay, straight or whatever.
Making a big deal about clothes is like saying if you're gay everyone dresses a certain way, which isn't true at all.
How did you know which comm I meant? ;)

Date: 2007-05-03 01:55 pm (UTC)But equal treament in fandom would mean having to read about about how Lance's boyfriends are all skanks/hos/users/utter bitches, and how fat/anorexic/ugly/badly dressed they are, and that would be sad.
Truly, not reading the comments on

Date: 2007-05-03 02:50 pm (UTC)There's supporters of the SO's as well. And, it is sad that people talk that way about them with such venom anyway. So, which is sadder? That Lance's dates are squealed over simply because they have the same genitalia as Lance or people disliking the man of the moment because he had the guy they all wanted?
I cannot agree about the comm more, however.

Date: 2007-05-03 11:41 pm (UTC)They're both sad, really. All SOs should be welcomed with open arms, even the evil ones. We need baddies to write about, after all. :-)

Date: 2007-05-03 01:51 pm (UTC)I've seen a few people mention that they like him more now. If it's for the reasons you say, and they are good and valid reasons, I'd be much happier. There's no doubt that he does look happier, and that's a good thing.
What rubs me the wrong way is when I get the impression that he's liked more only because he's gay. Not because of how he's changed due to coming out, just that he has sex with men. Which is an insane reason to change how you think of a person.
IMHO his newfound freedom just totally opened him up and made him even more endearing than he already was
I totally agree. I enjoy seeing him have the freedom to date who he likes.
Thank you for putting your point forward. It does help me reevaluate some of the comments I see.

Date: 2007-05-03 04:15 pm (UTC)The posts/comments were made within days, if not the day, of Lance's outing. Doesn't exactly leave time for his new less stressed etc personality to win them over.
I didn't mean to make you feel misunderstood. I'm sure there are people who admire all those things you mentioned. I know there are. I just don't think that's who she was talking about. :-/
