I was Christmasfying some of my icons this morning but when I went to upload found out that instead of leaving a gap an inactive ones just took its place. Which is very irritating indeed.

Corey's home sick from school today, the first school day off he's had since starting secondary school last year. But he's been ill all weekend and he needs another day lounging around and keeping warm in bed. He did ask if he could go on his computer but if he's not well enough to go to school he's not well enough for the computer or playstation. So he's watching a Blue's Clues marathon instead.

We put our tree up yesterday so the house is well on its way to being all sparkly and festive. Then it was snowing when I got up, so the lit up tree looked so good with the snow swirling behind it.

The bitty bang stories have started to go live, which is so awesome! Sadly, no reading for me just yet as I have emails and stuff to catch up on, because this weekend has been a bust in terms of those.

ETA: I was given some fennel and I'm at a loss about what to do with it. I'm making vegetable soup later. Can it go in that?

you can put fennel in soup (it's got quite an aniseed-y taste, which I love, but if people don;t like it, it's likely to take over the taste of the whole thing)

I also like it raw in salads, or, if you've got peppers, roasted with the peppers - that's one of my favourite christmas dishes.

I've never actually tried it before, so may hold out on putting it in the soup. But, I've got a load of peppers that need using up so I'm going to investigate that recipe.

Thank you!

I haven't had time to read bittybang either. It's so hard- they're all like 30,000 words long! Which is cool, but time-intensive.

I know! There looks to be some really interesting ones too, but if I start to read I'll get nothing done at all. I'll be good and keep them until I have actual spare time.

Yay! Sparkly Terri time!

I like fennel, but if you're not used to it, use it very sparingly. It's got a strong, distinct taste.

Yes! I'll have to share pics when it's done.

I've never tasted fennel. These vegetable boxes keep sending me stuff I've never even thought about buying. Still, it's an adventure.

Also, you're back!? Does this mean I can bother you in email again? :D

Please do!

And I'll try to remember my camera to take pictures of my penguins.

mmmm, foood. Fennel, as almost everyone has noted, has a strong, anise-y flavor, but roasting it mellows it. Ina has a great recipe here for a puree with celery root, apples and potatoes (she calls for Yukon gold, but anything you have will do.) It's really yummy with a roast (beef or pork) or some baked chops.

Hmmmmm. That sounds good! I think roasting it is the way to go. I'm not sure if I'll go for an anise-y flavour, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Thank you!

Huh? But you have a paid account how can you have inactive userpics? Oh, silly me, you've got extra userpics you haven't paid for, is that right?

You've got SNOW, I'm so envious!! Here it's just grey and dark and drizzly and DREARY *sulks*

I wasn't that interested to hear that the bittybang stories were going live until I saw that [livejournal.com profile] chalcopyrite'd written a sequel to her absolutely charming SeSa story about Chris & Nick as paranormal detectives. I've bookmarked it for possible future reading, and I somehow suspect there will be more bittybang stories I'll do that with :-)

Personally I dislike fennel, both raw and cooked, but then I hate anything with aniseed flavour so that's not very suprising.

Yep, that's right. They ran out and I'm waiting for pay day to get the add ons again. I didn't cross my mind that deleting icons wouldn't leave a gap. Still, I can wait because I'm certainly not deleting them all and re uploading.

We do have snow, and are forecast for more. The weather is so weird lately.

I have that story tabbed, along with Lucy's and the Kevin/Nick. Getting the time to actually read will be an issue though. I really need more hours in a day.

I'm looking forward to trying the fennel. Hopefully I'll like it.

Yay tree! But I hope Corey feels better soon.

I don't have a tree yet but I hung my star lantern and set out my Advent candles and a few other decorations and feel quite festive already.

Okay, okay, this whole comment is just an excuse to use my shiny new mfac icon. :)
