Five fic writers you read who you think are awesome but who might not be widely known about
sperrywink Yes she's my friend but she's also a really good writer that doesn't get enough attention imo. She writes in multiple fandoms, has a deft hand with crossovers and isn't afraid to get stuck into a good sex scene. She has her stories on LJ, DW and also AO3 here. Her Mikey/Pete series Fumbling with the Blues is so good, as is What Dreams May Come, a awesome Frank/Mikey
frausorge Lesa's writing is beautiful and she has the enviable knack of being able to write both short and long stories that draw you in and keep hold. She has this amazing series about Pete who has multiple personalties, and I love it so much. The first is Wind His Branches Round

What are five things you would have done with the poor, poor chives if they'd lived?
You know, I have no idea. All I've done with chives previously is snipped them up and put them on top of cheese sandwiches. This is probably why they didn't live, they wanted to go to a cook that actually knew what they were doing so in protest just lay there dormant and died. Stupid chives!
five things you like about alternate reality fiction(tvshows/fic/books etc)
That one small element can change things so completely, and that AR fiction can show that well. Like, fic wise, what would have happened if Bob said no to joining MCR, or Pete wasn't checking his LJ and so Ryan's comments never reached their target. Stuff like that is interesting to think about.
It also allows us to examine how people change in different circumstance. We were discussing Sliders and in that there's all these different versions of Quinn and the others. Each different reality doesn't have the same character just with different events going around them, they're different in nature and appearance and behaviour, so many things, and I think that's really cool.
I like the world building that goes into AR fic, that they're showing us our world but it's also different. I mean, the sky's the limit in terms of how these different realities can go. A good writer can make me believe anything, Earth is now run by kangaroo people, awesome, just tell me how and why that happened.
In a situation where characters can cross realities I like it leads to the possibility of same person sex. I don't understand why there's not a million fics about Quinn having sex with himself. I'd read them.
Okay, yeah, I'm stuck on that point now. Also that DR Mikey needs to go and have sex with Honey Mikey. Debauchery all around!

Top five rare pairings you wish weren't so rare
I'm sure this is no surprise, but Mikey/Ryan. It makes sense! They get to sit around and be all hot and bony and stare'y. They like animals and make-up and music. They both had sex with Pete, they both like to be random on twitter before going missing for months. They both rock at the tambourine, they both enjoy an ugly hat. WHY DO MORE PEOPLE NOT SEE THAT THEY ARE MEANT TO BE?!
Mikey/Frank. There's a sad lack of good fic for them and I don't get why. BFF pairings are the best kinds of pairings. They lived together for goodness sake! Frank texted Mikey constantly when Mikey was off on his break. They go together so well and obviously like each other and balance each other out.
Ryan/Jon. I'm not actually sure if this is rare as I'm more in the MCR side of things, but I love that pairing like burning and I never seem to see enough stories for them.
Pete/Joe. I understand why it happens as the Pete/Patrick is so obvious, but Pete and Joe have known each other forever and maybe Pete doesn't go snuggling with him on stage but it doesn't mean they can't get up to dirty hotness in private.
Mikey/Gabe. They worked the scene together, Gabe has admitted to making out with Mikey and yet so little fic. What's up with that fandom?
Also, 5a. Where is the Alex/Nate people? Hot. Like. Burning!
Top five AU scenarios involving Mikey and Ryan
The first one has to be when Mikey helped Ryan renovate his house with the moat. How they sat with their feet in the water and just stared creepily until Spencer came along and did all the actual work.
Oh wait, that's not AU is it? Damn, okay, but that can stay as a shining example of something that could happen.
Now you may not have noticed but I like putting Mikey and Ryan in horrible situations, so number one is slave fic. Where they're chained up, either in cages in wagons or with shackles with the other slaves and are forced to exist on stale bread and water and spend the nights huddled together for warmth. Meanwhile Spencer and Gerard are frantically looking for them.
Hooker fic! Where they're both fucked up in the head and don't believe they're worth anything except for selling their bodies and bond over long silences and unspoken knowledge that they're both hiding behind shields that block others from seeing how much they're hurting. I may be writing this right now
They haven't actually met in the Sound Tracking verse, but they've got pretty similar pasts in some ways and one day Ryan will end up at Pete's and they'll go and look at Brendon's vorwuls, just watching as they walk the pens and the suns would be bright and the grass green under their feet and Ryan would be all, "Do the nightmares ever stop?" And Mikey would just shrug and remember the countless times he wakes up screaming and held by Frank and Pete and then say, "No, but they get easier to deal with." My Mikey and Ryan have a friendship built on very few words, and I am fine with that.
To show I'm not all pain and angst, I think they'd run an amazing animal shelter together. Ryan would keep taking in more abandoned dogs and Mikey cats and they'd have an ongoing argument about how the cats don't need outfits and then would compromise with spiffy bandannas for collars on the dogs and they'd constantly be covered in hair and scratches on their arms and paw prints on their clothes but neither would care. Just cuddle the animals and Mikey would use his every contact to get funding and Ryan would write pages long descriptions of each animal to go on the cages and website and at the end of the day they'd go and make weird sandwiches and watch TV and fall asleep curled together on the couch.
Mikey and Ryan the androids that are perfect during the day, expressionless and words careful, but as soon as their owners leave the room they're living it up, laughing and talking and having happy android sex. Then Mikey is taken away to be replaced by a newer model and Ryan stands at the window watching and is all NOOOOOOOOO!!!
ETA: There is vegetable casting MCR and android!Mikey/Android/Ryan ideas going on in comments over at LJ and Spencer/Brendon going on at DW. You guys are the best!

Date: 2010-08-24 05:09 pm (UTC)Spencer's both amused by their antics and really horrified (MIKEY AND RYAN AND POWERTOOLS; he's slightly in awe that no one lost a limb). He's a bit cranky, though, because at first Ryan was all "no, we've got it under control" and the thing is, they haven't been really back to talking since just very recently, so Spencer's confused by all those new lines where RyanandSpencer used to be. Also Brendon's at home and throwing a jealous hissyfit because they had PLANS, okay? They had plans and then Ryan called in a frenzy and Spencer dropped everything. (See my ability to turn anything into Brendon/Spencer. I'm kind of proud of it.)

Then I think Brendon should stew a bit, ranting about how Ryan hasn't even been around and now he is and Spencer just goes at a moment's notice. But then he'd calm down and remind himself that this is a good thing and that Spencer's missed Ryan terribly and then Brendon grabs his car keys, takes five minutes to go to a shop to buy sandwiches and soda and then heads for Ryan's.
When he gets there Spencer is soaking wet, his t-shirt off and jeans clinging as he does something in the moat while Ryan and Mikey sit and watch, surrounded by clumps of weeds, wood shavings and a terrifying power saw.
Brendon's attention would be pulled between Spencer, because hello, half naked and Ryan, who Brendon hasn't actually talked to in a while.
Which is when Mikey and Ryan would look at each other before Mikey pushes himself up, supposedly to help Spencer, but what he's really doing is taking pictures and sending them to Pete. Meanwhile Brendon sits in Mikey's former place and not looking at Ryan, says, "Hi."

I love alternate reality fic like BURNING. I'm not necessarily good at it, but I would love to write acres of it. The narc!AA is actually an alternate reality where Gerard's and Mikey's grandmother died when Mikey was 10 and Gerard a little older and Gerard goes off the rails, but keeps Mikey out of it because he is still a kid.

I was writing that earlier, poor Frank has just started to get sick and Mikey's life is about to take a sharp downturn. Sorry Mikey, I hurt because I love.
Well, I'll tell you how that android story would go if I wrote it. I'd do the happy android sex, Mikey and Ryan doing their android duties, blah, blah, blah, Mikey is taken so android!Ryan breaks his programming totally and goes to find Spencer, who's probably an ATM or something and Gerard who's some kind of robot genuis and together they find android!Mikey and get him back to safety. Which is where I'd end it because happy ending, yeah?
Which is when my betas send me an email going. Android!Mikey only has one leg and has had his memory erased. NEEDS MORE COMFORT! Fix it!

And you totally can't end it with one-legged amnesiac Android!Mikey, your betas are SMART. This is far too sad. There needs to be some kind of memory download to try to restore him, perhaps a combination of Gerard's and Ryan's shared memory banks, and perhaps they try to withhold some of the bad memories to keep Mikey's life a little lighter, but that may not actually be the best idea because he needs those memories to learn about consequences, which they realise when he nearly gets totalled a few days later, so they restore the sad memories too, but getting them all in one hit like that is not a good idea and he goes into a bit of a depression and... wow this really isn't fixing ANYTHING.

I agree with you. I love the whole idea of what happens to us helps build our characteristics up. And seriously Sliders sooo totally worked well with this the first two(early three) seasons. It wasn't just the same Quinn Mallory in each AR but many different Quinns that were each distinctly their own person. Hell the pilot episode shows this concept very well. The sliding Quinn is much more cocky. *funny that you would say that....I think the same thing....I actually dropped a Quinn/Quinn prompt over at the porn meme battle thingy....alas no one filled it:(*
Even if I mostly write AU's and not Alternate Realities I try to use the good rules to ARs when I write my AUs...why are things different?..and why does it matter?(FBI Verse is a good example...but then hopefully all my AUs follow in the same function)
