I know, I know, you'll be sick of the sight of my name but this isn't fic, promise.

Last night one of my eyes felt a bit wonky but I figured it was eye strain after spending so long coding and posting. This morning I woke up and realised my right eye couldn't close, which was a little worrying. After trying and failing to get an appointment at the doctors we headed off to the walk in centre, where the eye issue plus the fact my nose, cheek, mouth etc was going numb made them suggest Bell's Palsy. Sadly they couldn't offer treatment for that but they did manage to get me an appointment for my own doctors for the afternoon.

Went out with the in laws and had a lot of fun with my nephew, came home and posted the h/c, which is probably riddled with mistakes as I couldn't do my usual last check through and then went off to the doctors where it was confirmed as Bell's Palsy. I now have a course of steroids, eye drops for the day, eye drops for the night and tape to keep my eye closed when I sleep, and a leaflet saying it may start to get better in about 3 months. Which you know, not what I wanted to hear when eating and drinking is an issue.

Still, bright side. I'm now part of the lop sided smile club with Gerard and could take on all comers in an one-eyed staring contest.

Apparently in 70% of cases it does and getting the steroids straight away is a good thing. I guess the rest is just waiting.

It's more inconvenient than anything. Nothing hurts but the right side of my face is so numb that actually eating or drinking involves hoping for the best and keeping a towel or tissues at hand at all times because I can't feel if I'm spilling. Or my eye is watering. Fingers crossed I don't get a cold.

I have to admit, that freaked me out. The doctor was really good, researching all the newest treatments and contacting the eye hospital for advice, but when she said it could take 3 months to a year. Well it wasn't a good moment.

She said the people that do recover tend to do so between 3 months and a year. I've decided it's going to be less than that because thinking in months is far too long.

Bandom boys are always awesome to cheer you up. Me and Gerard, we're in there *g*

It is a new icon! It's from someone over at dreamwidth. Hold on, let me get the name. It's by roxicons.

I was very impressed with them today. Thought it started badly with not being able to get an appointment with my GP everything after that was done fast and well. My doctor did say 3 months to a year so when I think about that 3 months sounds like the way to go. Plus, some people get better faster. There's no reason I won't be one of them.

My emo tear is awesome, it goes nicely with the slight lisp I've got going *g*

Oh no! I feel so sorry for you. Your family really has been cursed with bad health this autumn! I'd never heard about Bell's Palsy before so I'd to research it on the net. It sounds very tiresome and irritating, not to mention long-lasting! (Though according to a study that wikipedia referenced 85% at least began to get better within three weeks.) I'm keeping my fingers crossed you'll be one of the lucky ones and will recover swiftly. *sends you all the good luck and healthy thoughts I can find*
